Johnson's weaknesses as an offensive coordinator are Dingleberry's failures as a head coach.

Singletary's approach will never allow the Niners to put a game away. No matter how well the Niners are playing Singletary is going to keep it close.

Singletary's approach will take the offense out of rythm and will always keep the other team in position to go for the win.

[quote=binary2nd]C. The formations we use still aren't the best for our personnel, mainly our QB. We still telegraph our plays, total vanilla when it comes to running plays. Really, Alex bailed us out on Offense in a game full of penalties and poor pass protection.
This!
We dont even have close to average play calling. We dont use all of our weapons enough (Davis, Crabs, Westbrook, Dixon, Ginn, even Bynham). It feels like we run a series of random plays without any over all strategy. We go from ultra conservative to trying to pass 50 yards down field. We still are sending out 1 WR to be covered by 3 DBs.
Imagine how much better we would be if we subed in Dixon and Westbrook for a few series a game? Why is Morgan streaking downfield instead of Ginn? Why is our All pro TE only touching the ball twice a game? Why can't we hit Crabs back to back, yet we can hand the ball off to Gore 5 consecutive times?
simple, Morgan has to be able to run that play when he is on the field also. This is the only way that the game will open up more fore Vern and Crabs. Ginn got his chance on that same play but i believe it was overthrown. You want to really be considered vanilla, then only run certain plays for certain players.I swear
Johnson's hands may very well be tied, but I give him a D-. I'm not sure how the play calling could get much worst at the NFL level (If it wasn't for Jimmy Raye that is)?
Second. I gave it a C+ just because he is working us out of Jimmy Raye's mess to begin with.
Now we do have to do a better job of getting suprise plays to open the game up more. But our players have to be able to beat teams even when that team knows the t play. If your watching the game now then you would notice that Tenn plays a lot of 1 wide and still able to move the ball. The D knows that its going to be a run, but the players are still executing the plays. The successful teams can do that.
My buddy asked yesterday why we kept running that same play that gore bust his big run. 15 mins later i told him thats why!
I get the execution argument. That's why I didn't blame Raye for calling up that play that would of worked when Alex Smith and Moran Norris couldn't connect on that 4th and goal. However, the flip side of that argument was that certain players have no business being put in that situation in the first place. With the exception of one play two years ago, I dont think Morgan has ever proven to be a deep threat. In fact, I dont even think he has proven to be that good of a reciever. Again, I just dont think we use our personnel enough/effectively.
As far as Tenn goes, even if they are lining up 1 WR, I'm sure they are running more than two running plays like the Niners.
When I give the play-calling a D- minus, its not because of MJ. Its because of all the reasons stated above and the over all philosophy. You realize that we gave Oakland the ball back with 3 minutes on the clock? Thats because prior to that we ran Gore up the gut over and over. When you give a team the ball back that is down 4 points they are officially in 4 down terittory. If it was the Eagles,NO or ATL I think we would be talking about being 0-6.

yeah but it wasnt like they were throwing the ball all over the field to do this. That series we ran the ball 6 of 7 times. the raiders used 2 of 3 timeouts to save clock. this is not the fault of MJ. he did his job there. i wish we had tried to pass for the 1st down on the 3rd down play instead of the draw tho.

B+ for bunch formations exploiting the Raiders blown zone coverage with the Crabtree TD pass, and the playaction misdirection TD pass to Vernon Davis after the long Gore run. Even Alex couldn't mess those plays up.

Raye called a Counter against New Orleans and Frank got 10 yards on it I believe. He ran Weak Side if memory serves me correctly.

Yup then we went back to the well one more time on the next play with a screen to Frank that failed miserably.

We gotta get away from that if we hope to have any kind of success from here on out. That crap may work against St. Louis and Arizona, but average teams will know what you've called and they'll stack the line and collapse the Pocket around the QB and flush him out. That's what Seymour did to Staley and caught Smith coming out of the Pocket. WE need to at least get Sims back in at LT and Heitmann or Snyder at RG. We gotta continue on with Baas @ Center cause he's a better Center than Heitmann is disregarding the High Snap at the beginning of the season.

I said this last week, Mike HAS to use the playbook Singletaetary and Raye created, it is too late to toss the whole book out, so he has to use it. Second Singletary reviews, edits, and approves the game plan!
So let's review, Mike has to use a crappy playbook, with approval of a guy who doesn't know X's and O's well enough to play tic tac toe!
Are you kidding me!!!!! A+ plus for even moving the ball!

Bingo with Golita. I have maintained since season started that we have a LB coach, now our HC, calling the plays for each game. He may not call or okay every play but as Golitta says, MJ is under the yoke of bigmike's(BMs) play calling...and this from a guy who doesn't know Xs and Os, yet is calling our game plan.
My favorite is 2 TEs, bunched up close, on 2nd down. I wonder if Frank is going L, R, or up the middle. Watching that set, virtually every 2nd down just makes my blood boil. I guess it is better than doing that on 1st, 2nd and 3rd down, but basically we are wasting 2nd down most series and are telegraphing it to boot.
Until BM is fired, schidt canned, pink slipped...whatever you want to call it...then MJ is going to do C work at best because he has the amazing MR NO "O" making the game plans and calling the game, indirectly, and sometimes, directly. Let MJ call his plays; also i am suspicious BM is laying his green steamers on the lawn for Mansuk also. Let Manusk make up the game plan, and then let him call it. The raider win is chimera, and we will be back on our BM streak before long. How our D can do anything and same for O is a mystery to me, in that they have an unqualified HC , a LB coach for heaven's sakes , making up the game plan. It and he, BM, suck.
We don't have a GM, how about we don't have a HC for rest of year and see how MJ and manusky do until we get a bona fide HC here, hopefully right after we get a grown up , a HOFO, to run this team. Just buy silver spoon jed a shiny new Maserati or Lamborghini, and he'll forget all about football...and let professionals run this team.
Funny, but as the season goes along, for the first time in 33 yrs, I am finding ways to do other things during our games. Watching it is just too painful. FIRE BM NOW. The guy is just a buffoon dressed up like a HC, with no imagination, and a great memory of how to play 1985 Bears football. As for coaching...fundamentals, game plans, personnel...the guy is a sorry azzed loser. FIRE BM, while we still have some semblance of a team. Turn MJ and Manusky loose to call their own game plans. BMs fingerprints are all over current game plans, and everyone knows, he just DOESN'T have it.

Another D+ performance by Raye Jr.
