Its been 6 years and he's just starting to be at the level great rookie QBs are at ala Bradford..he's going to be a stud. That being said Alex will have an NFL career he would be a great backup and I would love for us to draft a great QB (Luck) and have Alex be backup/ starter till Lucks ready

Anyone who thinks Alex will ever play like an All Pro for an entire season is off their rocker, the guy is a model of inconsistency. I do, however, think he's capable of leading this team into the playoffs with good coaching...or another team.
I don't know what Smith you were watching but until the final gun sounds you cannot count guys out.
Joe Montana had a few of those "Late" game drives as well. You won't find one person here condemning him for it. I'm NOT at all saying Smith is Joe worthy. Just pointing out the fallacy of your argument.

The above stats are for 10.5 games. If he had played the full season dude would have thrown for almost twice as many yards, he and Davis OBVIOUSLY had chemistry and nobody could defend the Seam Pass. Davis would have blown the Single Season TD record away by at least 3 more TDs' because Smith could throw farther down field than Hill could. And he would have thrown more TDs' as a result of that success as well.
The Bell Cow mentality is what is hanging us out to dry. Every time we Run Run Run teams stack the box, and against our Weak OLines' the pocket collapses around Smith's ears.
I have not a doubt in my mind that had Smith Started the season he WOULD have made the Pro Bowl. Look at the stats he compiled in 10 and a Half games. The "late" combacks started in the 3rd Quarter most of them anyway. So the idea that the Opposing team backed off is horsepucky. I think there was only one game where you could say that because he didn't do much in the 3rd Quarter but got hot in the 4th and that was against PHILLY who Smith almost came back on this year. But I don't believe they backed off much if at all. They still brought the heat and collapsed the pocket on Smith.
ALSO what you fail to realize, is that in those comebacks Smith ran the 2 minute drill to perfection. This is the secret to Smith's success. When he runs the 2 minute, he calls his own plays.
If you don't see Pro Bowl it's only cause you gave up on the guy and nothing will get you back short of a Super Bowl Season. I don't blame you, but I think that you sell him short w/o taking into account that there were SEVERAL Post Season replacements in the Pro Bowl this past year cause the Players wanted to stay healthy to make the Super Bowl. Some players just didn't want to go either.

so you are saying he could of made the probowl if all the good qbs dropped out

at the very least, half the qbs in the NFC would have had to pull out of the game last year before he would of even been considered.

Your theories are the worst kind of popular tripe, your methods are sloppy, and your conclusions are highly questionable. As a webzoner, I have to tell ya you've finally gone around the bend on this Alex Smith business
Really? Show me how my methods are sloppy. Alex averaged just under 2 TDs' a game in 10.5 games. Stands to reason that he would put that up in the remaining 5 games for we'll say 8 TDs'? That's 26 TDs'. Pro Bowl caliber statistic.
His attempts per game were low. Averaging around 32 per game roughly. That's a Pro Bowl statistic when you stop to consider that Peyton Manning averages 40+ per game.
He did throw 12 INTs' in 10.5 games so lets say he threw another 5 INTs' in the remaining 5 games. That's 17 picks. Not unrealistic and not enough to keep him from the Pro Bowl considering Favruh is a turnover machine and consistently makes Pro Bowls. Tho he probably won't make it this season.
Now I won't get into QB Rating but an 81.5 rating isn't great. However if you look at those 5 games and Arizona being the 1st game of the Season I think Smith would have had a better rating. In fact Smith generally has the Cards number. He's not spectacular but he did better than Hill did in our Home game v. Away. Hell we could have run the same game plan and Smith would have performed better.
Don't crap on my methods just cause you don't agree with my stance. Put something up that would justify your opinion. To say my methods are sloppy and false without proof says NOTHING.
As far as Yards that's provable by using average yards per game and extrapolating it to the remaining 5 games.
Sorry to disappoint you but when you don't have a full season to look at this is what you do to get a look at what a Player would most probably have done. We do this in Baseball all the time. Extrapolation is even used in Vegas to figure out Odds for the spread.
It's very real and not sloppy science.

Alex Smith choked. He got frazzled when he was booed and VD had to encourage him to speak up for his postion. He led two nice drives but when he had an opportunity to take the lead he missed a wide open Gore. Te next play was typical Alex. An interception and game over. He may have garnered some sympathy points, but he certainly did not demonstrate the leadership needed to succeed in this league.
Don't remember any choking in that final drive against NO. The line didn't have anything to do with that last interecption against Philly? With the fan base crashing down on his head and Singletary calling him out before a national audience (and his teammates strongly rallying for him) and under unbelievable pressure he leads two virtually perfect drives for TDs. I guarantee there are good NFL coaches who took notice of those games and would like to see what Smith could for them.
Most good coaches already have a franchise QB. It goes hand and hand in this league. Minnesota is going to be the most attractive team for a quarterback but don't look for them to target Smith. Kolb or Vick makes a million times more sense. Same system, west coast offense ready.
After that Arizona, Cleveland, Carolina, Jacksonville, Oakland, Buffalo could be looking for a quarterback but chances a couple of those teams will look to the draft for a quarterback. For a good starting gig Alex's best chances are probally Whisenhunt in Arizona and possibly Cowher in Carolina.
It's not just about having talent. Sometimes you have to be in the right place at the right time. There really isn't going to be many great oppurtunities for a QB bust. Wherever you go you have a short window of time to prove yourself and you're extremely lucky if catch onto a playoff caliber team.
Well that could be good but I think it would be a bad place for him to land cause their Line isn't very good either. One blown assignment could get Smith killed especially against this Defensive Front 7.
~Ceadder
Agreed.
Alex Smith is not as bad as many here make him out to be. Has he made bonehead mistakes? Sure.
But if he had a solid Offensive Staff bringing him along I don't have a doubt in my mind that he'd be a Pro Bowl caliber Player. Hell he was that last year only he got a late start. So his numbers did not reflect it. Even though they kinda did when you do the math.
~Ceadder
Are you saying that Alex smith played like a pro-bowler last seaon?
He did. But his numbers weren't great and he didn't get started til midseason.
ALSO remember that several Players declined the visit to Miami.
So if you're out to ridicule me be ready for a thorough statistical analysis of how Smith could have gone to the Pro Bowl had he played all 16 games.
~Ceadder
Unless you make the playoffs it's real hard to make the Pro Bowl as a QB. Alex's qb rating was only good enough for 8th place in the NFC last season. His yards per game was only good for enough 10th place in the NFC last season.
He would be up there on touchdowns but that number isn't going to carry him to a Pro Bowl by itself. Brees, Favre, Rodgers, Romo, McNabb, Warner all made the playoffs last year. Unless we're in the playoffs he's not coming close to knocking one of the guys out.

I was a huge A.S. supporter and I have been totally disgusted with him this year. He does so many things well and then totally screws the pooch.
I did go look at the stats though. Did you guys know that he is in #11 (Behind Aaron Rogers by only 4 yards!!!) in passing yards? His rating is in the bottom third but there are a number of QB's below him that are noteworthy like Hasselbeck and Favre.
If Smith has one breakout game where he throws 3 tds and no picks he will have a rating in the middle of the pack and be in the top ten in passing yards.
Even in the last game, both picks were inconsequential. The second one was Staley's fault too and the first one Ginns fault.
After seeing the states, I am forced acquiesce to the die hards smith reporters. Our problems are defense and rushing attack...not Smith. Smith is the one being hung out to dry to save the team becuase our rushing attack and defense suck so bad right now.

Smith will get a nice contract next year.
And we'll get a second tier draft pick or a washed up veteran!
This is so true it's sad

Your posts become more and more delusional. Alexis Smith showed he needed someone else to get him to react to adversity. Had Vernon and Frank said or did nothing Alex would have taken his demotion like a god little back up, and THATS what people will see.
Alex Smith will never be a successful starter on this league. He may get a chance somewhere else, and he may start somewhere else, but he will not be successful because no other team ia foolish enough to take the time Alexis needs to know their playbook inside and out the way that he needs, wich is not the same as most qbs. Alex needs a never changing system to be successful. A system he knows perfectly and is comfortable running from experience doing so.
Modern offense evolve. Alex doesn't deal with change well.
