We Need To Be More Creative

Thats why our offense looks lost in the middle of the games, its the predictable play calling influenced by Sing. Its the eat up the clock and grind it out mentality that just doesnt work in todays game. The approach we should be taking is, lets score as many points as we can and hope our defense can hold our opponents down. I dont think there is a team in the league that can stop the weapons we have on offense if we just utilized them. The problem is that we lack creativity in play selection and personnel packages on both sides of the ball.

We could easily come out in a 2 rb, 2te, 1 wr set and burn teams all day. This package would force a defense to come out in its base defense(3-4/4-3). Once at the line of scrimmage you empty Gore and Westbrook out of the backfield and split Walker and VD wide. Now we have a 5WR set and force the defense to cover our backs and TEs with LBs and safeties. We never scheme mismatches though, and its a big part of our offensive woes.

On defense we dont get very creative either. We play that 2 deep shell 95% of the game. And while we dont get beat deep, It is evident that we get killed on screens and short passes because of it. GB uses what they call the pyscho formation on defense( 1-5-5). This allows them to get their best pass rushers on the field instead of using 34 Lineman who get little to no pressure. I would like to see us get creative and use something like this. Follow me here for a second. Our one down lineman would be Justin Smith. Our LBs would be, Willis, Brooks, Lawson, Parys, Laboy. Our seondary would be Goldson, Mays, Clements, Spencer and Brown.

With the pyscho defense you have all of your Lbs and your sole lineman standing up at the line so you dont know who is coming or dropping into coverage. You get all of our best pass rushers on the field at once and our pressure would have to increase. But we dont get creative, we just sit in our 2 deep shell because we are scared to get beat deep.

These are just 2 examples of how to be creative and create mismatches for a team. Its just to bad that our coaching staff isnt innovative enough to bring some of these philosophies to our team.

As for defense, Manusky simply isn't that creative, he's merely a disciple not an originator of the 3-4 defense.

Did you just see Minn first play from scrimmage? Double reverse with Moss looking to throw it deep. Moss has been there 1 week and already they are being creative with him.

Agree. We play are ass off when we are aggressive, but then we go all conservative & let the other team back in the game or let them come back to take the lead. I think this effects everyone on the team, including us fans. I say we stay aggressive on offense & defense all game & just try to outscore other teams, ala the Saints from last season.

Wow, what a revelation!!!!! Now we figure this out? Brilliant. It's like let's see how much sh*t we can throw against the wall; some will inevitably stick. What a joke; such a JV coach and management structure.
