Why does the spread work?

Because its design to pick up the first down in almost every play. The 49ers run a "give up" or "hope" running play in the first 2 downs. They try to pick up a third and long with a 7 yard pass. Basically we are only trying to get the first down on our 3rd down. Nobody should be surprise if we fail to pick up the first down. We only have 1 shot. When they go to their spread, the ball moves - the chain moves. We have the receivers. I believe I guessed 95% of our running plays.

It could have something to do with the fact that Alex Smith found all his success his entire career in the spread, therefore it is where he is most comfortable. But besides for that, it's probably just a coincidence that Alex Smith looks amazing in the spread.

Hahahhahhahaa...

"Give up play" or "hope play" .... Thats a great way to describe all of those 1st down runs and those second and 10 runs up the middle.

Even my 7 year old knew when they were going to run...

We need to just go spread the rest of the year. I mean what do we have to lose at this point? If Alex still sucks...then so be it. Nothing new. If he succeeds and we some how magically get back in it...then F'N A...the fans have been right for 6 years.

Boy I rather see the spread than see Gore run up the middle on 1st and 2nd down.
