Its like some people truly have no concept of accumulation.

Its like some people have no clue as to its a team sport and there are 11 players on each side of the ball who all contribute to wins and loses.

The difference was when we needed it most, Clements screwed up - THE END. Yes Smith had a bad game, yes the defense let them drive down the field and kick a winning field goal, but all of the negative could have been erased EASILY, all he had to do was go down. With all of the s**t that we have gone through this season we had an opportunity to, in spite of everything, to win that game and Clements decided otherwise. We have to now regroup and start fresh next weekend. I am a fan until the end but that hurt to watch - I don't get mad anymore because I don't expect them to win all the time like I used to lol, I get upset when they tease me and lose like that, it's hard to watch and not cringe!

So if they lose next week because Crabtree makes a horrible mistake at the worst possible time, will you start a thread saying it was just Crabtree's fault and no worries? What's the point?

You can't justify Alex's sh*tty play with Matt Ryan's sh*tty play.

Also, you have made absolutely no points that haven't been brought up 100 times in 10 other threads.

exactly

I am not fighting about Alex Smith sucking...fact is BOTH QUARTERBACKERS LEFT POINTS ON THE BOARD AT THE END OF THE DAY THE ONLY PLAY THAT MADE A DIFFERENCE WAS THE FUMBLE. THank god I don't live near you I'd punch you in the face, half the people on here don't know a f**king thing about the sport. How many times has Brett Favre thrown interceptions and cost his team only to be saved by defense in the last minutes of a game and he's a hall of famer. Alex Smith sucks I agree and hopefully he's gone after this year and I never disagreed with that but if you are going to sit here and tell me that Alex Smith is the reason we lost then you are not intelligent.

I know what half you belong in, tough guy. Meet me at the Philly game in section six, row 12. I will be the guy wearing the Niners hat.

Yes, Clements had the win in his hand, and had he taken a knee, we'd be 1-3.

really? atl had 3 timeouts left, with our luck we run 3 [plays up the middle and miss a fg and they still take the ball down the field

Lets assume we run 3 plays, and they stop us inside their own 10. By then, there is one minute left on the clock, and the 49ers are in position to go up by 4. Yes, they would have time to come back and win, but the odds would be extremely less likely being without any timeouts.

F@*% the concept of team sport. And don't tell me that you bought into what the "team" was saying that we lost as a team BS. Everyone in the Niner locker room knows that Clements blew it PERIOD - including Nate himself.

Its not just about the stat line, if anything that says something about our defense.

We forced Matt Ryan to a BELOW average "Matt Ryan game." The Falcons did not force Alex Smith to a below average Alex Smith game; they simply forced him to an average game, which implies that our defense played better.

The Falcons defense didn't do anything special, and our defense caused Matt Ryan to have a bad day.

Every year, every week, every game we blame our defense, because when you don't have an offense, the only way you can win is with your defense. If our defense holds the opponent to 0 points every week, we can never lose, so by that logic, every loss we have ever had is the fault of the defense.

The defense did a terrific job on the road in a hostile environment against a very good quarterback. It would be nice if the offense could win a game once in while, but they never do, its always our defense.

Almost every single GM in the game would give up Smith and a 1st round pick for Matt Ryan. What does that say? (although I suspect most GMs would say, "I will take the pick, but you go ahead and keep Alex."

Alex is the scapegoat. He doesn't play as bad as everyone is making it out to be. Every QB throws interceptions. Every QB misses open receivers. Yes, Alex doesn't play on the same level as other top notch receivers but our receivers don't play as well as other top notch wideouts in the league either. A QB's throw doesn't always have to be right on the money. Our wideouts don't even put the extra effort to make a catch. If you're gonna blame Alex, don't just blame him and praise our defense. It's a team effort. And, we've been losing as a team, not because Alex has been handing out freebies to the opposing defenses. It's just sad that there're so many ignorant fans out there. And, for all of you blaming Alex for the intentional grounding play, look at the play over again. He had zero chance on that play. But, if you hate someone, you'll find every reason to bs about it. It's as simple as that.

It does not matter who did what. We still lost
We got 7 points from our offense against a mediocre at best Atlanta defense.

That's not good enough. You can point to Ryan's bad day, Clement's fumble or any stat you want, but it doesn't change the fact that our offense once again failed to put up points.

Unless you're New York, Baltimore or Pittsburgh (in other words elite defense) you don't consisantly win with that kind of offensive ineptness.
