I'm not saying Rodgers would have wound up any different here. You can't compare the two because they ended up in totally different situations. A lot of other teams passed on Rodgers as well. It just looks bad because of the player he became. Smith has never developed into anything resembling a championship level QB. You can argue all you want to, but he's still making the same mistakes. I don't think much of Carr either.
I know we should have but Nolan had no guts and Dingleberry does not know that the spread offense is the only offense that Smith will do well in.

I'm not saying he should be benched for a new starter, but if he continues poor game performances we should send in a back up to finish the game. Similar to what the Dolphins did tonight on MNF, just to send a message that continuing to turn the ball over damages our chances to win the game week after week. And Smith is a turnover machine this first month.

Mike Johnson will make Smith better because he does things that alex does well in(the spread offense, play action and boot leg) So I think you will see a better Smith Next week. But I really dont want him to be our starter next season cuz i want the niners to have a fresh start and draft luck from Stanford. We need a top notch elite QB!

Maiocco had a smart article today. Boy, its so refreshing to read something written by smart people who bother to do their homework. He analyzed the game, focusing in on Alex's three "bone-head plays. (1) Alex seemed to want to go to Vernon, but Vernon did not turn his head, so Alex had to checkdown to Gore. Just then the pocket was collapsing and as he threw he bumped into Baas, who was being pushed back. The bump altered his throw and it went high = INT. (2) the second INT was because the LB was expected to follow Vernon, but because Alex's eyes was on Morgan, the LB changed directions and was able to deflect the ball = INTT. Alex's fault. (3) Alex was being sacked and in depseration he flung the ball toward Gore = 10 yard grounding penalty. Good play by Alex. If the refs had given him the benefit of the doubt, it would have been an incomp. If he had done nothing it would have been a 10 yard loss on the sack. Either way, we were out of FG range.
Maiocco's analysis was that Alex had screwed up once.
See, with a little study, you can see why the pros are sticking with Alex. He played well - not perfect - but well.

I don't think Alex has ever been legitimately "benched". During a game or before a game.
sure he has lost QB competitions but he has never been benched.
So, if we told someone who hasn't followed the NFL the past 6 years that-
Alex has never won a QB competition,
Alex has started many games and is a team captain.
Alex has never been benched.
they'd probably think he must be one hell of a QB.
wait- did Nolan bench Alex for Dilfer?...or did Alex get *injuried*. I forgot.

damn, I knew we weren't 0-4
so what if he screwed up once? we only scored 7 points on offense and that was thanks to a PI call.

Many contend that Alex cannot throw long, in fact, does not throw long. It is an indication, you say, that the OC knows it and that is why they call plays for shorter routes. I read that Atlanta defensed agains the deep pass, allowing the shorter passes. If this is true it suggest that they fear Alex's deep ball.

screwed up once. So it wasnt Smiths fault that the safety got a running start on that play. Or the overthrow to Morgan that would have been a td. Or the thow into the ground to morgan because he doesnt have the arm strength. The PI that wasnt because Smith threw 10 yards out of bounds. Or the lack of balls/skill resulting in dump off after dump off

Actually I read that they figured Smith would F*ck up if they forced him to dink and dunk down the field

You are typical haters. A good QB has a 70% completion rate, but with a hater every incomplete pass means the QB sucks. I have yet to see a QB play a perfect game. Go ahead and make your miserable. I happen to enjoy Alex's good passes and there have been plenty of them.

Sing believes everything he's doing is the correct thing. I wouldn't expect anything less from a f**kin idiot who cant even elaborate on his "explanations" and says "we'll talk about our next game now" to get out of uncomfortable situations where he's asked to explain things.
Read a book Sing! Learn how to explain s**t!

You want to bench Smith? For who? Carr? Junk. Troy? Yeah right. Nate Davis? The guy cleared waivers, which means every other team in the league doesn't think too highly of him as he rots away on the training squad.
People need to take a chill pill and let the season play out. The Niners started off well last year and ended up in mediocrity. For all we know the Niners may start off slow and then pick up steam as the season goes on, ending in a great season or playoff run. Have some faith and don't be such defeatists.
To suggest that Davis has no talent and can't improve THIS team because he was not picked up on waivers at the begining of the season is faulty reasoning. What he may not have been able to do for some other team does not mean that he can not do for a team that he has been with for an entire year. Plus, the timing of the release would have likely resulted in Alex not being pick=up had he been released. Bottom line though; in 3 of the 4 games, Alex has produced one TD and three fgs and leads the league in interceptions. When you are at rock bottom; you can't get any worst.

At least wait for a loss to the Eagles.
Season already over with Smith in there, so I don't see the difference.
For real. Does anyone really believe the playoffs are within reach?? I cannot guarantee a win against anybody with this lackluster offence led by a terrible QB. Change might be just the spark the team needs.
I think it is time to see what Nate has. He should be elevated from the PS and put Smith onto the PS. See if someone snatches him up, LOL. Nobody would take Smith from the PS, He is worthless.
I bet if Smith gets released he goes to either the Colts or Patriots.
