Watching MNF and how many different blitzes Dom Capers is throwing out there. Why doesn't Manusky? Does he not trust the guys to hold up in coverage? This team as a whole has been pretty boring to watch this year.

I don't know if we are afraid of getting beat deep (which we do at times) or giving up the screen play or both. That being said the 3 man line is getting no pressure so we have to do something. Side note but Haralson has to work on a move besides just trying to run around the edge. I don't think any of our DL/OLBs have any pass rush moves for that matter.

I don't get it though because in pre season we blitzed like mad and got great results. Even with the 1st string but it could just be because of pre season. So far we really toned back on the blitzes except Wilis a few times. I don't know if Singletary instructed Manusky to play bend don't break and take it easy or what. That works if we are able to score points but with us having a hard time doing that we can't afford to give up points.
And watching MNF, Julius Peppers is tearing it up! How many people here said he was washed up and not worth a pick up?

At least the Bears have the cajones to try! Our front office just sits back on its laurels and hopes that the likes of Alex Smith and Manny Lawson all of the sudden turn into Pro-Bowlers.

Show of hands, who would be mad if we had Jay Cutler and Julius Peppers playing in Red and Gold?
Consistent pass rush is what's missing. Also, in-game adjustments by Manusky.

You think he could have played 3-4 OLB? I think 80 million was to much to convert a 4-3 DE that is 30 years old into a linebacker who never previously played the position. I could be wrong though....

Anyways, back to our defense...
Our D should be held just as accountable as the O. They couldn't hold up at the end of the Saints game and the secondary is mediocre AT BEST. Again, no pass rush, can't stop teams on 3rd and long, all the very same things that have plagued us for a while now. THIS TEAM IS LIKE A F*CKING BROKEN RECORD!!!!
The 49ers defense right now is an enigma, but I say the Niners D plays well when the offense rewards them with points.

First of all, per Sing's philosophy, we sell out to stop the run.

But in today's NFL, teams pass first! I would replace both Spikes and Haralson with Bowman and Brooks. You give up some fysical against the run, but Bowman gives you better sideline-to-sideline speed, while Brooks gives more pass rush.

The only runners who have really given us trouble are players like Chris Johnson and others who can beat with quickness. More Speed from Bowman certainly wouldn't hurt. If our front 7 is really as good as Sing and others suggest they shouldn't need the kind of help they get from the safeties.

Then I replace Michael Lewis with Reggie Smith. Lewis may be great against the run, but he's a huge liability against the pass. Our corners are vulnerable to getting beaten deep, due to lack of speed, but if you take the receiver down at the line of scrimmage, that is not such a liability. Play off the line and you play into their weaknesses, which is the vulnerability to quick moves, and with Goldson and Lewis crowding the line we are doomed. I would also redefine Goldson's responsibilities: he has been selling out to stop the run, when he needs to be our deep pass security blanket. You will really need that if you are going to use the strength of our corners, which is their physicality.
the offense did not fail to cover bowe on the flea flicker

the offense did not give up a 1st down on a 3rd and 20 plus run

the offense didnt give cassel all day too throw

the defense had their share of stink yesterday

I remember saying we should pick up Peppers but people complained how he'd be the next Haynesworth, cost too much, etc. whatever. He would've helped us and he's a beast. As far as Cutler goes, just look how he played with Ron Turner as his OC. He's awesome but I think his talent would've been wasted by Raye.
we dont blitz were as vanilla as most of the guys on here's sex lives
