Coaching and quarterback

If an NFL team lost yesterday the coach and the quarterback were spared no criticism. Fans in Baltimore want Bulger and fans in Minnesota think the team has to win inspite of Childress and in Dallas fans have little confidence in Phillips and Jason Garrett. What does this have to do with the 49ers? Well, if they lose badly tonight you had better believe Raye,Singletary and Alex Smith will get hit with a bunch of criticism. Most head coach's stay loyal to the nth degree to their quarterbacks so even if Alex Smith sucks tonight, Singletary may stay with him unless ownership tells him to win games no matter who he has to bench. I don't have any confidence in Smith and that attitude is no different than fans of losing teams elsewhere.

Don't act like your prediction is right because you're just fooling yourself. Have faith. Don't even think about the 49ers loosing. If the 49ers win, you're going to wish you never made this thread! You never know, it might be Frank Gore messing up tonight because he can't gain any yards. Then, as the week flow, people are going to make threads talking about "Start Dixon or Westbrook!" Everyone has a part in the 49ers organization. Now, people are bagging on Singletary... FOR WHAT? He's matured this team and now people want him fired... Let's be real here.... Everyone on the team has a mouth, so whatever thoughts your thinking that Singletary, Smith, or Raye should say, complain to the whole team! Why aren't they thinking this?
Wait when the game is over to have the rights to say anything!

The point is a good one. I agree that a terrible performance by the coaches, or by Smith, changes everything. It just doesn't seem that things could continue as they are.
On the other hand, a good performance and everyone is happy and their positions are solid till the end of the year.
Its a big game.

Archie,
Most NFL coaches will go get their QB when they take over a struggling team. While Singletary has stuck with Smith, arguably Nolan's mistake, he has brought in two new back-ups both of which were highly regarded coming out of collage and both of which are considered by many in the NFL to be able to start.
If Alex continues to struggle, I predict that Singletary will show respect for Jimmy Raye, a career sub .500 coach and end the Alex Smith experiment. I think that Singletary will skip David Carr and proceed directly to Troy Smith.
Raye, and Singletary's loyalty to him is in my opinion what will eventually bring and end to Singletary's coaching career in S.F.
While I am not a huge fan of Singletary, Jimmy Raye or Alex Smith I wish them all well as long as they are part of our San Francisco Forty Niners,
