I think Alex Smith is ok but he definitely doesn't have "it". It's obvious when you watch football games and see other teams QBs that have it. You can tell by their presence and how they can create something out of nothing. It appeared that Alex had more "it" in the Norv Turner offense than he does now. It's weird. I hope we get rid of him next year and I hope we can find a young player that will bring this offense to a new level.

2. Smith was a winning QB last year, was he not? Shaun Hill's losses shouldn't be credited against him. And if Walker and VD could have hung onto his TD passes at Seattle last year, we would have had a winning record. (Or had Gore and Battle not fumbled)
3. So what? Your whole theory that a player should be removed based on how long he has been here is absent of logic and reasoning. Gore has been here since 2005 as well. Is he under the same scrutiny?

I don't know how many "problems" have a history of making their team better. When Smith was healthy in 2006 and 2009, he definitely made the rest of the team better. No one should argue against this.

Smith NEVER made the rest of the team better.

He always made them worse, he was always a weak spot on the team.

Look, he's the starting QB. When they lose, he gets too much of the blame. When they win, he'll get too much of the credit. In Smith's case, the scales are probably tilted a bit more than normal toward the "blame" side because of his history here and the 49ers struggles since 2002.

There was plenty of blame to go around yesterday. It was a complete team meltdown but Smith gets the brunt of it because he's the starting QB and he doesn't have the history here for the majority of fans to be willing to give him the benefit of the doubt. For example, if he had Aaron Rodgers' recent history behind him, there would be more blame pointed at the receivers, the OL, the coaching, it was just one of those games, etc.

The truth is that whether you are "pro-Alex," "anti-Alex" or somewhere in the middle, Smith has to prove it to everyone every week. That's just where he's at. That's what this year, for better or worse, is all about since he's in the last year of his contract. Fair or not, he didn't prove it in week 1. The rest of the details aren't worth arguing about at this point.

Yea, he didn't play great yesterday after starting off 9 for 9. But who remembers who his first incompletion was to? That's right. It was a pass to Michael Crabtree. Remember Crabtree is the guy who has held out for money, skimped out on practice, and remained cocky throughout all of it. This is a guy who dropped crucial passes last year including an opening series TD against Chicago. It is his routine mental errors that routinely make Smith look bad. Tell me, if you're Smith, do you have confidence in Crabtree? Sure, he makes very nice plays, but to date, he has made a lot more costly errors than he has beneficial plays.

As for Jimmy Raye, well, he can't get the plays in on time. In turn, our offense keeps losing its rhythm and stalling drives. It is absurd, and it would fluster any QB.

Last, I want to comment on the Moran Norris pass. a) What was up with the play call? It was 4th and 6". There was no reason to not pound the ball in behind Iupati. At that point in the game, Seattle had 9 yards of offense on two possessions. b) Norris should have caught the pass. Yes, it was high. But it was entirely catchable.
