I think it falls on Smith. I don't remember all these "headset issues" with Hill or O' Sullivan. Smith needs to just run the damn play and quit 2nd guessing the call. He ain't Peyton Manning.

As for him blaming the coaches, please people.
Remember this?

Yeah he blamed VD on this only to later say it was his own fault.

I won't pass final judgement yet. He did well in the 1st half until the Norris and Crabtree miscues. I'll wait until week 4 to stake my claims while ALL THE 49er UNFAITHFUL FANS jump to conclusions.

Some have been saying this for a very looooooonnnnggg time.

When you have a QB, who can only play within the script, i.e., does not have player instincts to carry the team, think outside the box when plays break down, etc., you need an good HC/OC to get good play out of that position. MAYBE Alex can do an adequate job; unfortunately his HC is an amateur who doesn't even understand the relative importance of different positions on the team e.g., "QB is not the most important position on the team", etc.

Still, it's only the first game. They will play better next week, I'm sure. However, I'm also inclined to believe that it won't make much of a difference against the Saints.

So much for the myth of Singletary as the straight-shooting, disciplinarian and detail-oriented head coach.

Nolan Jr?

Very likely.

In today's game, you need a head coach who strategically excels in AT LEAST one phase of the game, otherwise you have to rely on your assistant coaches to be REALLY good in all areas. Well, we have Manusky, who's a pretty good DC, but not overly accomplished yet.

On offense, we have nothing.

To add to that it leads to Singletary backing up Raye instead of Smith b/c he choose Raye and everything offensively he has put into Raye's hands. he has to back Raye or he's saying that he failed by hiring him. He inherited Smith. But your point is perfect b/c really his assistants control his future and not him controlling theirs.

wow.

I have the no sympathy for the coaching staff...well at least Singletary..... he made this bed, now he has to sleep in it.

he traded a good back up for a 7th Rd pick, just so Alex didn't have to look over his shoulder....now the team is fk'ed if Alex doesn't turn it around soon........

this same backup knows the system and the players.....so if by chance he had to come in, it wouldn't really be an adjustment........but instead Sing traded him for a 7th round Pick....lol.

now we have David Carr and Troy Smith....first year in our offensive scheme and have no rhythm with our offensive personnel.........not to mention David Carr is .

should have kept Shaun or brought in a QB who would have pushed Alex...as well as been a reliable backup, if he was ever needed to brought in.

I'm with you on this. Especially after they bashed Nate who at least knows 67% of the plays and offers play making ability talent. No one can convince me that Nate would not have gotten into the endzone at least one time if he was coached to maximize the % of the playbook that he knows.
If we start 0-3 & cant even beat the lonely Chiefs up in arrowhead we should just clean house bench Smith for the rest of the season Clements Haralson cut Norris bring up Caulcrick & Davis from the practice squad
& FIRE most of the coaching staff starting with Jimmy "Bill Cosby" Raye along with Singletary

looks like slowly but trully he's loosing the team

Sounds like it will be a repeat of the last several years. Yawn.

I think it's somewhat overlooked that this year is not only the proving year for Alex Smith, but the entire coaching staff as well. Playoffs, or complete overhaul.

he is definitely losing the team. Anyone notice how yesterday when he was yelling at players coming in they were just walking right past him like he didn't exist. I saw that several times yesterday. Well I admit, I saw what appeared like that scenario. I don't think they want to hear his tirades anymore...they see his own faults far too much. The respect and trust is deterioriating very fast

Meanwhile, Raye professed mild puzzlement about why the play calls were not being relayed fast enough from him to the sideline to Smith. Raye also said that even if the play calls don't arrive, Smith "has a run-pass fail-safe play he can call."

I laughed when i read this one. Because to be honest, 2 things. No 1. who's to say that it wasnt used, and what if the fail safe play wouldnt work on that particular drive.

NO.2-- as many times as the entire O looked lost, i think it's safe to say, that yeah maybe for a few plays, but the entire game he's gonna run the fail safe pass play.

Where's the gameplanning if on every series you have to go the fail safe play. Give me a break

If this continue before the midway point the players will publicly call Singletary out thus having management firing him ALA Mike Nolan

meaning once again we pick in the top 10 or even top 5 in next years draft

Its inevitable that this team will go nowhere with smith the pitts, dingleterry and marble mouth raye. Hope the team chokes which by the way i predicted all offseason. Overhyped team. BY losing we can rid ourselves of the messiah quaterback and draft andrew luck. He is the future. Did you see singletary writing in his little book yesterday., What coach is taking notes during the game. Maybe he is writing some biblical messages he wishes to convey to the church clergy next week. I said in last months post. In the niners organization there are those that dont back smith. It was on csn bay area. Steve young said a quaterback either gets it or doesnt. Its an instinctful position and that alex doesnt have that. In so many words. The foolish zoners disputed that theory. welll i news for you . The zoners are brainwashed. HOld on to the memory of the 80s and early 90s. At least we had 17 years of great football and 5 rings. MOst organizations cant come close to matching. THe NINERS ARE THE WARRIORS OF THE WEST>
