if smith throws that ball to anyone OTHER than norris = TD

Even though Norris fell backwards and didn't jump, that ball was way over his head, I doubt Michael Jordan could have caught it.

Really, I saw the ball go right through his two hands. It was not a high velocity ball either, a little high, but any other eligible receiver on the offense would have caught that pass.

I played wide receiver, if the ball hits your hands, you're supposed to catch it.

If Moron can't make that basic catch, why is he on the field.

That play was totally not Smith's fault.

Smith also had a defender in his face that he had to loft the ball over and Norris stopped his route once he turned around instead of continuing to move backwards. If he followed through with his route the ball would have hit him in stride, near his chest.

All you had to do to see that was to look across the LOS yesterday. Hasselback came to the LOS with a play they thought would fool the 49ers, and if he didn't think it would work, HE HAD TIME TO AUDIBLE OUT OF IT. Hasselback burned the 49er defense multiple times yesterday. Alex Smith, OTOH, was just glad to get a play call in time to run the darn thing. Until that changes, it won't matter the formation.

Good point, if Smith is going to be our QB, he needs to be given ownership of the offense. That means the ability to make reads, audible out if needed, and if the playcall is late in coming...to proceed to the LOS immediately with his own call.

I saw a couple other teams yesterday running no-huddles, but the no-hurry up variety. They just lined up and let the clock go down, and let the QB audible to a play of his choice.

The huddle itself is totally overrated if you ask me. Unless you have a very special play with complex assignments, you don't need a huddle....you should have a audible system which lets the QB make the call based on LOS reads of defensive alignments.

A. Because they are they stubborn and hard headed morons.

Singletary is still infatuated with molding the team into a brute force run up the gut type team. Yet the personnel would really be better suited to a finesse uptempo style which could highlight their speed and athleticism. Even Gore would benefit from it. How much wear and tear does he go through when he has run between the tackles like that....wouldn't it be better to get him the ball in space?

The primary issue with the offense is not just the rhythm and tempo of the playcalls, it's that it fails to properly maximize the many matchup advantages that the Niners enjoy.

Blaming Smith is retarded. they had all season to find anyone else, but they chose Smith precisely because he showed some flashes of brilliance last season while running the spread. But they won't feature those sets as part of the regular offense.

DING DING DING WINNER!!!!!!!!! this will lead to singletary's demise just like it did nolan. we have the f**king talent to be a spread offense and we should be doing it like the saints, colts and others. yes we dont have the elite qb but it clearly shows alex is light yrs better in the gun as well as our offense. the league is a pass 1st offense and yet singletary id f**king living in 85 still by the time singletary decides to tell raye to spread it we'll be in our hole like we were in last yr. the only positive regardless what happened yesterday i dont see the cards or hawks being that good so it wont be that deep of a hole.

damn it i wish we hired shanahan, not just because he won yesterday but because hes as smart as they come when it comes to offense and its f**king time we bring in an offensive minded hc. i like singletary as a person and motivator but as a f**king hc hes starting to piss me off greatly and if he doesnt get us into the playoffs jed better get the balls to do something and hire that offensive minded hc
We are more worried about setting a philosophy than winning games.

So frustrating. Just do what works. We passed something like 10 times in the first 15 plays and what do you know? 9/10. Then we tighten up and make one mistake and go ultra conservative.

Jimmy Johnson nailed it on the head. When you go conservaball to the extent we do it leaves no room for error. I mean just look at Seattle...1st fvcking play of their season is a PICK. They didn't lay down and die like we did. They made adjustments and got even more aggressive and it worked.

Our biggest problem is when Alex or who ever makes mistakes we just run and hide. Run run screen punt. Then when we are down by 25 pts and we finally air it out (for the first time) on 3rd and 12...of course Alex misses. He throws outside instead of inside. Little mistakes that can be easily corrected if we did more that during games instead of waiting until the end of the 4th.

Get aggressive early and stay aggressive.

99% of the time he's on the field, we run the ball.

OVER THREW THE BALL WHATEVER THE EXCUSE IS IF THAT BALL WAS THROWN TO VD OR WHOEVER IT WOULD'VE BEEN CAUGHT CAUSE MORRIS JUMPED BUT DIDNT GO ANYWHERE WITH HIS HEAVYLOAD HE BARELY GOT OFF THE GROUND, WATCH THE REPLAY SOMEONE WOULD HAVE CAUGHT IT.

^I agree with the above. But even when our offense was rolling (first 3 drives) we still came away with 6 points b/c Smith failed to throw catchable passes to Morgan and Norris.

The playcalling wasn't horrendous for the entire game, IMO. It was the execution that was lacking. There are always going to be some playcalls that make you scratch your head with any team...but yesterday was more about a lack of execution (mainly by Smith) than anything else.

never will happen with a singletary lead team and an offense ran by raye. say were up 14-0 its run up the middle and dink and dunk and failing to continue to what got us those 2 tds

You're right about the importance of the huddle. The key is getting to the LOS in time for the QB to read the defense. If the arrive with 10 seconds to go, as was the case repeatedly with the Seahawks yesterday, the offense can run a quick snap if the defense starts moving around, thereby catching them not prepared, OR audible to something that works.

A secondary problem with getting to the LOS late is that it allows the defense to guess the snap count more easily. This happened to Joe Staley on one play where the play clock was down to 1 second and Chris Clemons just took off on a speed rush and was around Staley before Joe was up out of his stance. If Smith was given enough time to change up the snap count or use a hard count on occasion, the defense would have to sit back and watch the ball instead of just firing out when the play clock hits 1 second.
Chris Clemons

I agree. Smith blew his load on those plays. Usually he's decent in the red zone so I'm not entirely concerned. He has a 100+ rating in the red zone. Smiths problem was always marching the team downfield. Yesterday (earlier) he did that pretty well. He's gotten better at sustaining drives and converting....which is why yesterday was such a mystery to me. Like I said...usually Smith starts painfully slow then picks it up...this time he started off really well only to suck a$$ later.

Either way...it's fvcking frustrating as hell

what planet are you from , Alex would have thrown it high like the TD that was called back cuz 84 had to jump high to get the ball and land out side !

On that play, it looked to me that all the QB had to do was square up, look at his receiver with his eyes, and toss it to him for an easy pass conversion. He's too worried about getting hit, or trying to rush things instead of standing tall & throwing accurately.

Comments like this make me sick.....some of you actually thinks that EVERY stinkin' pass is going to be perfect? Here is an idea........watch more games and QB play. Saw Rodgers yesterday throw a pass that was WAY off target and Jennings went up and made the grab.......but here, because it is A. Smith, it means the QB stinks.
Yes this is exactly what I have been screaming about since yesterday if their gonna play Alex they cannot change him. If were gonna keep him we must work around him I know the players are gonna get a earful once they return hopefully management will get one also.
