How to fix the Secondary!

7-10 yard CB cushions killed us all year. These cushions allow opposing QBs to carve us up underneath. Having our CBs play off-coverage keeps focus off of shadowing their man... allows for so many screen successes... allows QBs to get the ball out before any real chance of QB pressures.

Clements did not just forget how to play CB, folks. We signed a physical, in-your-face CB for big money, and then used him as a zone CB in off-coverage. That's just stupidity. Manusky sucks... and our players are made to look pathetic under his scheme.

are you kidding me? Do you think an observation that obvious (7-10 yard CB cushions) would fly over manuskys' head.

Of course not. Manusky is no rookie coach. He has the CB's giving cushions for a reason.

the reason is this: Our Cb's suck. plain and simple. they're just average at best

Do you wanna see Clements or Spencer in man coverage with Greg

Jennings(122 rec yards, wk 13)????

or How About Roddy White (104 rec yards, wk 4)????

or maybe Vincent Jackson (112 rec yards, wk 15)????

Think about it...If our CB's gave up ridiculous amounts of yards to these receivers with 10 yard cushions, how much more yards do you think they'll surrender with man/bump-n-run coverage?????

If our SLOW-AS-HELL CB's ever missed a jam at the line of scrimmage than its a GURANTEED six points for the other team

manusky is just doin the best with the "cards" he has. We need to draft a better secondary. period.

Newsflash: We give up those huge plays even when in off-coverage anyway.

Why don't you think about it. Opposing QBs can not frequently hit their 1st or 2nd read in under 3 seconds thanks to aggressive CB play that disrupts receiver routes. They have to pull the ball back down and find other targets. Guess what... that takes time... extra time that the pass rush has to get to the QB.

Nate Clements didn't just magically forget how to be a good CB. That's just stupid thinking. It won't matter WHO we bring in at CB/DB, if Manusky is gonna remain a big Pu$$y and not give his defense a chance to succeed.
This is how i would fix it, with the same players that we have:

RCB - Reggie Smith ( I had enuff of Spencer)

FS - Nate Clements (He no longer can play the CB position, but Im sure he still can cover lots of grounds

SS - Taylor Mays (time to unleash this guy, by getting him close up to the line)

LCB - Terrell Brown (it's time to find out what kinda player we have in this guy)
Four things: beef up DL, beef up OLB pass rush, acquire shut-down CB and a real ballhawking FS.

Steal the other teams game plan. Bribe or blackmail the refs.
Patrick Peterson
We need one stud cover corner. We need someone who can handle quick and fast receivers alone.

I'd prefer to keep Clements on a restructured deal because he does really well vs certain types of receivers that most corners can't handle. He can manage big receivers with little to mid speed, but can't handle the quick guys very well. He also generally rocks against the run, but doesn't have what it takes to be our #1 guy every week.

I like Spencer, but he's a #2 or nickel corner.

I hope we can figure out the QB position some way other than with our #1 pick, because I want us to use that pick on a stud corner.

It won't matter who we bring in??
The ONLY reason manusky has schemed for 10yd cushions is because our CB's suck. end of story. If we bring in better CB's than we can play tighter coverage.

You actually think that our CB's can disrupt the routes of HUGE receivers like Roddy White, Vincent Jackson, Greg jennings, etc???? No way. Even if they did play
phyisical like that...our pass rush gives opposing QB's PLENTY of time!

Basically, your point is this: If we played bump -and- run coverage, than our CB's would magically be shut down corners and make the pro-bowl!

Gross exaggeration on multiple fronts, but yes, I do believe that playing tighter coverage more often would have allowed for better pass rush results and overall pass containment.

It's just common sense. I can not see how anyone that has watched these games can be content with the 7-10 yard CB cushions we have displayed. We signed a big-time FA CB for 60+ million that played tight on WRs and shut them down. What did we do with him? Play him in off-coverage. Brilliant!

Said all I need to here. You can disagree further if ya want, but in the end, it's just a difference of opinion that can only go in pointless circles. G' day, fellow 49ers fan!

hey
before you go i want to say that i feel your pain bro. I also hate the 10 yrd cushions and the waste of Clements, although we may have disagreed on the solutions to these problems.

anyways lets hope that the new head coach will bring a better success in our secondary!

New secondary and start over. That's how.

Cosigned. THe only guy that can stay is Spencer. The rest can GTFO.

Spencer got roached today. He looked just as bad as anybody.

He was alright today...no one got smoked on our D today. Even Clements dumb as played good but I still want him out.
