First of all, lame joke.

Second, you're only fooling yourself if you don't think Singletary's words about Nate Davis aren't responsible for nobody else claiming him.

GREAT response.

I guess we're done here.

So... now it's a conspiracy?

Why else would a coach come out and openly bash any player, only to want them to stick around? I guess I'm the only one besides the OP who's brain processes things other than what is thoroughly explained to them, in great detail.

It's not that hard to figure out.

I would say that if I was a GM knowing that the kid admitted he only knew 2/3 of the playbook after 1 1/2 years would be more than enough to keep me from putting him on my active roster... Sings words were meaningless... Davis' on the other hand sunk him... it also didn't help his situation that he laughed off Sing calling him out during the preseason. NO team has the time needed to devote to him as a member of the 53 roster. That is why Nate is on the practice squad.

I do agree that Nate Davis buried himself by not being able to learn. What I'm saying, though, is some teams would likely take a chance on him if Singletary hadn't openly bashed him in the media. Coaches never do this and it had to play a role. I'm not saying Nate Davis isn't responsible for nobody claiming him, just that Singletary's words were obviously strategic and likely had a big role in nobody claiming him.

First of all, lame joke. But, people who hate on the kid will surely find it funny.

I believe it helped, but I also think that coaches are a bit scared to take the risk bc they either dont want to waste the time or cant coach (which is evident with coaches begging players to come back now a days)!!!

Too all those that said Sing was stupid for letting him go....must feel stupid. No one on here knows the team better than the coaches!!!

100% behind Coach Samurai Mike!!!

Wow Rider, you're so far off base it makes me wonder if you're just joking.

You're just joking right?

Oh well, you have your mind made up. I won't try to change it.

You win. I am wrong. So were the analysts that thought he'd be claimed based on talent alone. What do they know, anyway?

Sorry, it just doesn't make sense. Apparently the analysts didn't dream up a conspiracy scenario like you did. Even Whitlock said Davis was entitled and lazy. So, is Whitlock part of the conspiracy too?

I just think you need to disconnect yourself from this emotionally and think a bit more rationally. Look at the rest of the league. They had multiple chances to put them on their team through the draft and the waiver wire. Only one team went to his pro day. None of that has anything to do with Mike Singletary.

Now, I'm not rooting against Davis, I just don't think he's going to amount to much. All the talent in the world is useless if you don't work hard.
I've said it before and I'll say it again: If 31 other GMs do not see more potential in Nate Davis than any of their current 3rd string QB, then I do not know how we can get excited that we see something that the others do not. I also do not buy into the theory of some that this was a clever ploy by Singletary. If he really wanted to keep Davis (1) he would have simply kept him. He took a risk in exposing him to other teams signing him, and (2) why did he bother to sign T. Smith? We now have 5 QBs.

Don't try to portray me as some Nate Davis fanboy. I actually like Troy Smith as our 3rd QB option better than I liked Nate Davis. I'm only giving my opinion here because it seems obvious to me. If you don't agree, fine, but don't sit there and try to act like I'm "way off base" here. What I'm saying is plausible, whether you agree with it or not.

All before Nate's preseason showings (besides the waiver wire, which is what we're discussing here). He only looked bad in ONE of those games, and people took notice of his physical abilities at the pro level.

(1) He thought Troy Smith was a better option right now, and I agree.

Yeah because Singletary has a magic 8 ball and knew Troy Smith was going to be cut. He made those comments in an attempt to motivate Davis.

Nate Davis supporters just need to come to grips with reality. He was a project to begin with, and that project is on it's last life line.

He was, by the 49ers. Which, apparently, is the only team that had any interest.

Okay, fair enough. Maybe you just came across like a fanboy when you blamed someone else (Singletary) for his Nate's ADMITTED shortcomings.

This is where you lose me. IF any team was on the fence about Nate before this happened, they had the chance to grab him and passed. AGAIN.

Do you really believe Singletary has that much clout in the NFL that whatever he says is gospel? Did he suddenly gain Bill Walsh status when I wasn't looking?

Great plots and subplots there with Coach Sing. Maybe some of you should take up fiction writing.

The fact is that 31 other teams passed on Nate Davis. They saw his incredible pass in the Raiders game and still passed on him.

I am not one to bash on someone for a learning disability, but to be a QB in the NFL you need to be very smart.

You can play other positions and have a learning disability, but not QB.

That is why 31 other teams passed on Nate.

Ya, I dont get how so many people get off on making fun of the guy for having a learning disability. Come on people were not the Raiders, show some Class

I don’t think Singletary rolls that way. The man is totally up front and he just doesn’t play those kind of games. No, I think he simply decided to risk it, and his gamble paid off. He knew that most rosters were already settled and teams wouldn’t want to take on a long term project like Nate at this point in the season. And if someone (like the Seahawks) had taken him off the waiver wire, Singletary would’ve just accepted it and moved on.

I’m glad we were able to re-sign Davis. The truth is, the practice squad is the right place for him. He’s a guy with lots of potential who isn't ready to play at the NFL level. The practice squad is exactly where he belongs. He can continue to work on his game with the same coaches and the same playbook and hopefully this experience lights a fire under his a$$. By next year, maybe he's ready to compete for a spot on the roster. Meanwhile, we’re not wasting a roster spot on a guy who’s not ready to contribute.
