Problem is - that leaves the 9ers without a burner at WR. OTOH - Ginn has shown nothing so far.

For what? For being a sucky WR that shouldn't be on an NFL roster?
Just to be fair let see what he gots before writting him off
He's got nothing. And he wouldn't make the team in 31 other places. After Crabtree there is a huge dropoff in talent on this team at WR. We could use a legit #2 and #3.
What you just described is the situation for more than half the league. Great WR's don't grow on trees. The guy you're s**tting on is last on the depth chart on an NFL roster. He is exactly what he is.
He's practice squad / training camp fodder. He doesn't belong on this team...
Coach Sing and Sully disagree with you. They know more about football than you or I ever will. The sooner you accept this, the happier your fanhood will be.
In the time he's been here, Sullivan has put a lot of really bad WRs on the field. He is more interested in them doing things his way then making plays. Sing's personnel moves have been idiosyncratic to say the least. Neither of them is beyond criticism.

The QB's seem to really trust him and he will be on the field matched up against 3rd and 4th string CB's. He will likely make some big plays and convert some long 3rd downs for us.
But really with Crabs, Davis, Gore and now Westbrook how many times will he see a ball come his way. Ginn, D. Walker and Dixon will be fighting for looks with him.

Amen. This is all good news. It's also good that guys of his talent level are the #4 guy. Remember when we used to have to get excited about keeping guys worse than Ziggy to be our starters. COUGH COUGH BRANDON LOYD COUGH COUGH!!!!

There is a whole lot more to playing WR than just raw speed. Plenty of track stars have tried to play WR and gone nowhere. It's a position which is 70% technique, 30% skill.

I'm predicting he'll be lucky to be on an NFL roster next year.

It took him three years to translate his practice play a preseason game. Lets hope it doesn't take another three years to translate that to a regular season game.
This is his fourth year, actually.

I like Zeigler and am glad he made the team. I do think we need a serious veteran presence among the WR's *cough* Houshmandzadeh *cough* maybe try and sneak Williams on the PS

It is third and 5 and Crabtree is not on the field. Who do you throw the ball to? I think our best option is Ziegler. I like him as the third receiver on third downs. Ginn's best asset is when the 49ers do a running play. Ginn forces the safeties to worry about the long pass and not play so close to the line. Other than that, I would give the 3rd WR job to Ziegler.

He can be the 49ers #3 receiver by this season's end (there are countless scenarios that could make this happen) and still have a hard time making an NFL roster in 2011.
