Our special teams are going to suck this year

So I am supposed to worry because we cut a 3rd string RB, who was a pretty good ST player, and a backup FB who was probably not going to make the team anyway.

We are going to replace them with faster defensive players who know how to tackle.

We now have at least 3 PR/KR players who are faster and can catch the ball and not fumble it.

Tell me again, why I am supposed to be concerned?

Are you actually that bored with your lives that you need to create drama?

IMO we have upgraded our team speed and youth.

If I was going to be concerned about anything I'd be concerned about our pass coverage on defense on the back end.

I'm pretty sure we are all bored with out lives when we come on the ZONE

No MRob, and Brit Miller was a good special teamer. Remember when MRob sprang Rossum for that KO return on MNF against AZ? He was great at throwing blocks and he could make some tackles and stuff. Miller played pretty good on ST last year also. I don't see very many tough guys on our special teams this year that really stand out. I remember we used to have Ulbrich, MRob, Killa Keith, etc. on ST in like 08 and had a really good ST unit. This year I'm worried.

Our special teams sucked with them

I'm not sure they fully sucked with them..but i agree in principle here.. I think many of us have become accustomed to mediocrity, we have some need to hold on to players who, (some argue brought us from bad to OK...perhaps?), but IMO they were probably nothing more than a contributing factor to a team that was satisfied with being OK... Not good enough, dont be scared of change people...set a standard of quality expectations and dont settle for players who dont fulfill it, we'll find guys that do
ST has sucked for years, this is nothing new. The sky isn't falling because we released a no-trick pony, scrub player like Michael Robinson

That just isn´t true. We sucked last year, but the years before, our special teams were actually quite good, do your research:

Rick Gosselins Special Teams Rankings 2008 (Niners ranked 6th)

Rick Gosselins Special Teams Rankings 2007 (Niners ranked 3rd)

If you don´t know Rick Gosselin, he is a columnist for the Dallas Morning News and does an annual special teams ranking. Those rankings are highly respected in NFL circles and are the de-facto NFL special teams rankings and referred to by coaches and GMs alike.

Still not enough? Try Football Outsiders special teams rankings, as well:

Football Outsiders Special Teams Rankings 2008 (Niners ranked 3rd)

Football Outsiders Special Teams Rankings 2007 (Niners ranked 4th)

Again, do your research before making such blanket statements.
our coverage is going to be worse but our returns are gonna be better

it was the other way around last year it led to so many fumbles in the opponents redzone because of ST alone we probally didnt mae the playffs
Lets go special teams, i hope the coaching staff knew what they were doing!

But blanket unresearched statements are what niner talk is all about

Hmmm. How did this one turn out? Our ST captain from last year making plays on returns and coverage, only problem was it was for the other team. We didn't do anything. Nice.

There were plenty of disheartening things about the last game, one of them being the loss of Ginn Jr. for PR/KR. And now with Adams injured, and Kyle Williams on the shelf, we are ACTUALLY worse than last year. Hopefully these guys will get healthy soon, but its really going to suck starting at the 17 ever time and Brees staring at the 40.
Brees will start at the 5. 1st and goal from the 5.
