18 game schedule?

Football is always better than no football.

Even when we were 6-9 going into week17 against the Browns playing for a draft pick, its still something to get crazy for. The bigger fans want more game..

But anyway..the schedule could be 10 games or 30, there will always be non-factor games..

I love it.

I would say for sure they should cut out 2 pre-season games, I think that is a no brainer personally.

As for adding 2 extra reg games...I really like that idea too, but can understand why it is debatable.

I actually think the 2 extra games should not be for all the starters though. I think it would be cool if the HC's handled the 18 game season in a way where they strategically rolled out the 2nd stringers twice a season.

Good idea, now that players are asking for 100 million dollar contracts. But, IMO they should also expand the roster to 65 players. More games, more players possibly injured.

I do not support an 18 game schedule if it means the preseason is shortened. The current system allows coaches to properly evaluate their players, especially rookies and first year players.

If two more games are added to the regular season at the expense of preseason, I think that will hurt the overall game and favor a small number of teams over the rest of the league.

On the other hand, if two games are added to the schedule without shortening the preseason, then I might support such a change.

Four major reasons why I like 4 preseason games and 16 game season.

1) statistics and previous accomplishments. That is a huge part of the game and wouldn't want it sacrificed so the NFL makes more money.

2) the quality of games are better in the beginning of the season if teams can iron out some kinks with 4 preseason games.

3) Injuries. Two extra games could take a toll on the players. I wouldn't want to see playoff games with more backups because teams had to play more games during the season.

4) Games will mean a LITTLE less with every additional game. That is one thing I love about football. Every game matters so much. Adding games takes away from that a little bit.

the roster will more than likely be expanded

plus coaches have a generall idea who will and will not make the final roster without having two extra preseason games

It's not actually 2 more games because they cut off 2 preseason games. It would be different if they kept 4 preseason and 18 regular season.

It's great for the league and fans!

I think the players lose more when they play 4 exhibition games as they are not actually simulating real games.

Ever since this 18 game schedule was mentioned, I felt it was a bad idea for many reasons. After reading some of your post, I see even more reasons it's a bad idea.

But for me, the thing that bothers me most is that they're messing with demand.

Don't get me wrong, I start counting down the days until week 1 in June, February is the worst month of the year (after the SB) and I actually watch as much pre-season as possible.

BUT, I don't know about everyone else, but because you have to wait and there aren't as many games, each game is like a holiday.

I have die-hard baseball/basketball/hockey fans and the regular season games are usually watched half-hearted. That's why football is America's sport, because it won't let you get board of it and we're GLUED to the F***ing screen for every second of the game because we know what it's like when it's gone.

Not that 18 will be like 40, 82, or 162, but it will delude it a bit. It really will, teams will clinch there spots in playoffs sooner, teams will be eliminated sooner, and the last two weeks of the regular season will be more meaningless than they are now. sure they'll probably bring in more than the last two preseason games, but with all the other possible problems, injuries, player wanting more cash, stats inflation, and adding labor day weekend competition, I just think it's a really risky move by the NFL. And probably, take a year off my life due to two more stressful games a season. Or worse, I'll loose a little interest.

Exactly, that will make more of Jerry's record to be beaten. And the achievement of rushing for 2000 yards in a season won't be as special. what will it be now 2200 yards? lame

That's only for a few teams. Most teams are still in the hunt to the last game. We could have used 2 more games the past 3 years to help our push against the Cards.

This should be in NFL Talk, not Niner Talk.

They should keep the 16 game schedule but add more wildcard games and teams

I really don't think the stats and records is a big deal. Well, actually I do think it is a big deal but that ship has already sailed....remember they were playing 14 games in the 70's...so in that sense all these awesome records of the past 40 years is invalid too, seeing as they got 2 extra games and a s**tload of rule changes that all favored the offense especially the passing game.

So, we can't now at this point consider the sanctity of some record book that has already been marred for decades.

All sports, need to have separate record books for separate era's, but that is another discussion altogether
