Sing's Coaching Style - is motivating players enough?

I believe that not everyone will respond equally to a single type of motivation. It's up to the coaches to find out how to get the best performance from each player.

The question is, would we be where we are today if we still had Mike Nolan?

Valid question for sure. Seems to me that motivation doesn't go as far as intelligence in this league. Just look at Bill Belichick, the guy is brilliant, doesn't do the "rah rah" stuff and his teams are consistently great. I think motivation can only go so far in the NFL. To be great you have to have such a keen eye for detail and be ahead of the curve. You also have to have a great QB running the show. I think the Niners can make the playoffs, but can they beat the truly well-oiled machines in this league (Patriots, Colts etc.?) Doubtful.

While Bellicheat might not do the "rah rah" stuff you better bet your bottom dollar he is one heck of a motivator. Everyone has different styles. Great motivators find what method works for each individual.

The greatest tactician is useless unless he can "motivate" those he's commanding to do as the tactics dictate.

with all respect, i dont think he's fantastic. right after the game and just today, all i hear is negative statements about Nate Davis. i think Nate did a pretty good job to be a 3rd string qb. those comments will not help Nate or anybody at all. and i careless wheter Nate is the 3rd or 2nd qb, Sing should not be talking like that about any player.
i remember last year, Alex made some poor decisions during games, and i dont remember Sing. talking bad about Alex. he always had an excuse for him

The Tuna Bill parcells is one of the All-Time great coaches,and he did it by motivating his players,albeit with mind games. And of course he had Belichek

I used to be so frusturated when others were calling for Singletary to be coach after Nolans 3rd year, after watch Singletary's demeanor on the sideline (not vocal at all, and just watched the games instead of actual coaching), Nolan was more hands on....however what I have learned. since he did become our Coach....



IT IS ALL IN HIS EYES

Dont know what some people are watching but if you dont think hes gonna get the most out of his players your crazy. Also the recent success that some of our late round picks have been having I have to give credit not just the front office but Sing as well. Add that in with the type of players that they target in drafts "players that love the game" they are naturally gonna be more receptive to his coaching style.

OL coach: Davis, you are lunging foward and taking large steps. Keep your base under you and shorten your steps. Don't worry, the rusher must turn the corner sooner or later and he has a greater radius to get around. You have a smaller radius needed to pivot and trust that because you will be able to cut him off to throw his rush further upfield as he turns the corner.


Davis: Thanks coach. I need to keep reminding myself of that rather than trying to chase the rusher at his radius.
