yea so i guess replace staley with goldson or lewis so it will be 3 offense and 3 defense

Alex Smith in my mind deserves to be a team captain. IMO it's not only fitting, but would boost his confidence even more.

Agreed. They said he has been taking lead anyways, speaking and leading the offense, teaching, practicing well, he deserves it.
