Why does everyone hate on Baas? When Chilo sucks too

I may be in the minority here....but I still like Chilo.

Can he play better? Sure. I think he still has a chance tho to be pretty good.

As for Baas...I actually kinda think the same thing....but I think he needs to stay at center.

As for this past game....The o-line was a bit suspect in pass protection (Davis playing like a rookie, Iupati and Rachal both trying to maul the guy in front instead of letting them come to them), but the run blocking was pretty damn good.

I think we need to chill a bit....we don't need every guy on the line to make the pro bowl. We need them to work well as a unit and right now they are just getting it together.

Wallace is our 4th string center. If we had a 5th center on the roster, he'd be our 5th stringer.

For the record, I had Notre Dame center John Sullivan on my 2008 draft board graded three rounds higher than Wallace, who I believed was a 6th round talent, at best. Wallace went to the Niners at 4, Sullivan to the Vikings at 6, and the rest is history.

Any thoughts on Boone and his progression?

Boone seems to have turned his life around, and that was the first step on the road to making an NFL roster. A couple good signs in his development:
1) Boone was considered a lazy player at OSU. Surpreme gifted, but lazy. From all reports this offseason, he's worked out at the Niners' facility, changed his body shape, appears more fit, and is dedicated.
2) The team is having him take some snaps at LT, which is huge. Teams don't generally keep undrafted players to only play RT. They have to be versatile to cover both tackle spots.
3) Jacob Bender has not generated much excitement this offseason in his development.
4) Finally, Heitmann's injury, although temporary, allows room for an extra player to make the opening day roster. I believe this is part of the collective bargaining agreement. I have to double check with the lengthy writing.

I believe these players will make up the 9 OL for the 53 man roster: Staley, Iupati, Baas, Rachal, Davis, Snyder, Wragge, Sims, Boone. However, once Heitmann comes back, Boone will more than likely be sent back to the practice squad.

I think this will be the end of the road for Wallace, and we will see two or three other guys play their final season for the Niners' OL in 2010. So, if Boone can be patient, he will probably be a fixure on the team in 2011.

Chilling a bit is good advice.

I will say that I think the Niners are going to struggle the first half of the year, and go into the bye at 4-4, maybe 3-5. The schedule is top heavy for them, and the OL is going to need some time to work things out. I predict a sloppy start for the offense in 2010. Just too much instability with two new rookies, and Baas playing in Heitmann's spot. Heitmann seems to have a calming effect on Smith, who has struggled since Heitmann has been injured.

I think if Boone continues to play like he did last game and improves the rest of the preseason then I think Sims will be the odd man out when Heitmann returns. Someone will snap Boone off the practice squad instantly. The 49ers are not going to take the chance of losing him.

I'm not completely convinced our O-line is as solid as everyone makes it out to be. I think Iupati is great but I see trouble on our line for the first 3-4 weeks.

Ugh...I just hope sht comes together this year. 10-6 or bust.

McCloughan just could not build a quality o-line to save his life.

Now when pretty much every position on our team is set to make a big run, our o-line is likely to hold us back big time.

It's kinda true, everyyyytime i hear NFL network or anything MIC up SING, all i hear is


"CHILLLOOOOOO COMON, he is killin me!"

I'm really worried about Chilo.

Rachal played almost as bad as Davis did last week.

First things first both where picked early 2nd round so we an throw that argument out the window. My first difference is that Baas is going on his 6th year and Rachal is going on his 3rd. Both deserve criticism and need to step it up but seeing is how Baas has had 3 more years he should be more developed. That being said I can't say if Rachal is lazy or not but he seems out of shape, sloppy and soft. He needs to buckle down or Wragge, Da La Puenta, Snyder or a future draft pick will take his spot. He better step it up because if one of those guys would beat him out I don't see why we would keep him around especially since he isn't versatile like some of those other guys.

Singletary is more committed to winning this year than doing favors for players. If Rachal doesn't play up to his potential, he will be demoted.
