This is a pic from Phil Barber. As you can see it didn't have much to do with the Smith throw, it had to do with being tackled in the head when he's already on the f**king ground. Whoever that DB is he's a dumbass.
You don't know that. The leap from the high throw could have caused an awkward way down while the DB was trying to make a play. What if Crabs didn't need to leap? It would have probably been just a stand up wrap up situation.
Who cares, it's football. What I am more concerned is if we see too many inaccurate throws that could possibility take away YAC that could have been. For example, a high throw stops after the catch whereas an on target throw allows for the WR to maybe have a chance at slipping the tackle because he's already grounded and can make a move.
I see it similar to a PG passing the basketball. In the perfect location, the other player can catch and shoot easily and quickly but if the ball is slightly off, then that split second the shooter takes to set is the difference between him having to pump fake and pass up the shot.
Little things like these is what made Joe Montana and Steve Young great.
