From Matt Maiocco's reporting:
Notable: Quarterbacks coach Mike Johnson is getting his first taste of relaying the plays, via radio, to the quarterbacks. Last season, offensive assistant Jason Michael handled those duties because he and offensive coordinator Jimmy Raye worked together previously for three seasons with the New York Jets and Raiders. Raye said he is trying to figure out which system works best. Raye said he will likely decide which assistant will be on the radio hookup with himself and the quarterbacks after the second exhibition game.
Hope Johnson uses the opportunity to call his own plays instead, especially when the team has a slim lead in the 4th quarter and Raye is getting ready to call 3 run plays in a row.
Seriously ?
Yeah thats a pretty stupid idea
ya sure, going above the OCs head to call your own plays is the best way to show how much of a professional you are
Seriously.
As for the three run plays, it's what you should be doing with fourth quarter leads, especially when you have a quarterback who can't operate successfully under center. Despite Gore's final numbers, our running game was just horrible last year.
IMO, yes, this was insanely frustrating, but Raye gets too much hate on this one.
