Will Manny Lawson break out in a Contract Year?

8 Sacks 3FF and Int.

A damn good year for a rotational player. I think that Harralson will be weeded out eventually, Making Brooks and Lawson the starters. 8 from Lawson and 9 from Brooks . Harralson adds 5, and Smith, McDonald, Franklin all add 3. We are talking about some serious sack numbers here!

Throw in 1 or 2 from Sopoaga, Balmer, Lewis, Gholdson, Clements and the remainder of the defense...

oh... and did I forget to mention the DPOY Patrick Willis , lets throw another 7 spot on top.

I see your 10 sacks and raise you 4.

14! That has to include the pre-seasons!
He'll definitely make my s**t list if he breaks out this year and then bounces to another team.

7 sacks maybe he isnt an elite pass rusher we have to deal with that however he is a great against the ruin and great in coverage and is a smart player

I think its crazy because I can't remember anything fantastic that he's done (other than an acrobatic INT his first season in the league), or anything horrible that he's done. He flies under the radar IMO. That being said I don't know how you can say hes great at anything?

hes great at being average

i think he is above average in everything except passrush. unfortunately, that lacking brings his overall game to the average level because he is a olb in a 3-4. i blame his height/long legs which are great for eating distance in getting from point a to point b in a relatively straight line, but are a hindrance in the " close combat" environment of a passrusher. he simply doesn't have the agility for it.

He should study film of Chris Doleman, he was a long lanky type like Manny, and he seemed to have great success, even in his later years.
No. Manny Lawson is over-rated.

or jason taylor. they seem to have similiar builds. he needs something other than that lone bullrush move. i honestly can't recall seeing him attempt any other type of move. i fear he simply doesn't have the ability.

Close! Playoffs....
Nice to see that he wants to stay but he should worry less about what the club isn't giving him and start worrying about the position battle that he's clearly in.

I like that he's being driven the way he is I just wish he would recognize the path his career is taking. All signs are pointing to: find a way to apply some consistent pressure on the QB and become a 3 down player or you won't be here. But he seems content to accept this "situational" role with Brooks, which I absolutely hate (the scenario not Brooks). I'm not even sure it's sack totals that the club is looking for out of him. I think we'd be happy just seeing him collapse that back side a little better without losing contain. I can't count the times I've seen him run wide and then come back with a weak inside club just to re-establish a pretty loose contain and his bull rush is lacking the bull. With his length he should be able to disrupt even if he's blocked, but he needs to be closer imho.

But you gotta like the fact that he IS jacked up about his situation and that should fuel a great performance this year. We're going to find out what we got and make a decision, I just hope he's mature enough to see that the club is challenging him and not disrespecting him.

Imo he hasn't hit his ceiling yet; there's pass rush in there, he just has to develop that killer instinct and maintain the skills that brought him this far. I think the scenario the club has imposed upon him is the best way of bringing that killer instinct out, but there's repercussions to every course of action and ultimately, it will be Manny's decision whether what the club is doing was for his benefit or if it was a slap in the face. Imho he'll be a fantastic 3-4 Will on somebody's team, I just hope it's ours.

Most players do have good years in the last year of their contract, so I'm gonna say "Yes he will".

Hopefully 1/4 of our season total of sacks wont come from one team again like last year against the Rams. We need to get more pressure on teams with speedy WRs like getting burned against ATL, GB, and Philly last year. And oh yeah we got to play them all again this year
I can't see him getting more than 8 sacks. I will say that he repeats his performance of the past year and we let him walk.

I'm probably more excited to see Brooks.

My "broken record" response is that the offense will control the ball more creating less time on the field for the secondary to wear down. Then the defense becomes more opportunistic and leads to turnovers and sacks. Plus we are returning all (pending Franklin) of our starters on defense. That accounts for something!
