I'll never understand NFL contracts.
They toute these big money contracts, but then you see that most of the money is in the back end and the player will probably never see it, ala N.Clement.

interesting...I think it's just a way that the team is saving money, chances are that contract will be renegotiated by the 2014-2015, to something like 5mil a year; since now it's just 2mil, 3mil, for the first few years.

I must have watched that Brad Smith hit 100 times... It was absolutely vicious... Brad Smith looked like he saw the light for a few moments there, popped right back up trying to play it off like he was cool, and then shortly after realized a bad man by the name of Patrick Willis just destroyed him. I love it!

Even if Willis plays his entire career with the 49ers, chances are he'll get another extension sometime before those big money years come.

doesn't it help us in the end if willis plays through this 5-years extension? i noticed that he has to finish his rookie contract and then the big money gradually kicks in year by year. since contracts get bigger each year, i think we'll save a s**tload since we extended him now and not in 2 years where he probably would have made 60+ mil. don't get me wrong though, this is one of the few players that i don't mind paying big $$$ to. he deserves every penny he gets.
