Rams scout hired to replace David McCloughan as head of college scouting

With David McCloughan out as the director of college scouting for the San Francisco 49ers, a league source told the National Football Post that veteran scout Joel Patten will be hired to replace him.

Patten, who spent last season with the St. Louis Rams, worked with Trent Baalke, who appears to be the leading candidate to become the next general manager of the 49ers, previously with the Washington Redskins. Patten had two stints scouting for the Redskins and also worked for the Houston Texans.

Patten is well regarded in the scouting community. An offensive tackle during his playing days, Patten made stops with the Browns, Colts, Chargers and Raiders. A Duke product, Patten also played in the USFL for the Washington Federals and the Orlando Renegades.

That was my first though but then I read up on him and he does have a good resume and has worked with the Texans and with Baalke in Washington.

He was a scout, it's not like he was the one making the draft picks for the Redskins and Rams.

Well this should be an indication that Baalke WILL be the next GM.
