Last night I caught the classic 98 game against the Jets. Man, I can still remember being so pissed about the Niners in the late 90's. There were glaring weaknesses for years that you just never saw between like 83-95.

And this teams does not even compare to those late 90 teams at all.

Exactly, what is it some of you guys expect. For the world to bow down to the average 49ers who year in and out their biggest positive is their potential.

Ha! Another one that doesn't get it.

I don't think you are suppose to say that about somebody else in May. Unless you are talking about last season. This time last season I predicted the Niners would go 7-9. I got it pretty good.

How did you do?

I don't know what you are talking about. Lets just speak straight.

I don't think the 2010 Niners are going to be very good. They may win the division, but winning one of the worst divisions I have ever seen does not make you good by NFL standards.

You believe otherwise I assume?

There is nothing for me to debate or "get" I will either be proven right or wrong.

Glad you are feeling better, we miss our resident wet blanket.

thanks for your kind words
In my webzone assessement last year i forecast 8-8. I do this after every training camp and the 3rd preseason game....stay tuned.

What MM forgot...

Is the the addition of our new Offensive Line coaches is very significant. We will have a better line this year no matter who starts. Word is that Solari is extremely technically focused which is where we suffered last year.
I would anticipate Iupati and Davis starting by mid season

and that Anthony Dixon (RB) and Byham (TE) will, if they make the team, offer a big upgrade to our short yardage abilities.

and that our return game will be better, should be top 15 versus bottom 15 like last year.

But he is right...we go nowhere if Alex doesn't show another step in performance. I must admit i am concerned...He did not ishow steady improvement as he went thru the season..stats were better...but did anyone else notice how he left a lot of throws high? If it wasn't for the escalator that Crabtree is to go up and get those there would have been a bunch more incompletes. Wonder if his shoulder repair has caused this....
I don't think he is a beat writer anymore? Not sure though. If not, he can be more honest which is a good thing. He was keeping it real on that article. That fluffy west coast media coverage isn't cool if the team hasn't made the playoffs in almost a decade.

IMO this might be as good as Smith is going to get. While his mechanics look better at times he does revert to his old lock kneed self when he is pressured which more often than not results in inaccurate throws.

That article he wrote really bummed me out. After the high of learning about P. Willis 5 year extension, it seems like Matt really dogged the team. He really had nothing positive to say about the 49ers. WTF MM? Are we finally seeing his true colors?

There's a difference between blogging strictly facts as a beat writer and writing opinion-based articles as a columnist. He was probably restricted at the Press Democrat in terms of being able to share his opinions on what the team has or has not been doing. The only time he seemed to involve his personal opinions in his writings for the Press Democrat was when writing about Alex Smith, but even then he stuck to the facts (he just opted to only write the facts that supported Alex Smith).

Get used to it. He's no longer a puppet of the PD or SF 49ers. I'm sure CSN doesn't want articles strictly written about what the Niners are doing well.

He was never a Niner fan, it is his wife that is a fan.

I dont think he's dissing the team, but think some are talking about his tone in the article. Before, he seemed more optimistic about the possibilities of what we can be. Which wasnt bad.

Then in reading this article, he's more like, we didnt do this, so this probably wont work. We didnt add that, so i see no improvement, and we shouldnt look for it in certain areas.

Now yes, he didnt say these words, but i can tell a difference in the writing. Maybe not enough to make a big deal about. but the tone is a little different IMHO

It would be funny if MM turns into one of those people we hate like Kawakami or that fatass forgot his name

It's funny you should say that, because Tim Kawakami is one of the better writers in this region. He doesn't suck off any team or individual, which is why many of the people on here hate him when he ruins their homerish views by writing the truth. People jocked Maiocco because he only reported news and never really put much into his thoughts on whether the moves were good or bad for the team.
article seems dead on to me. I have no problem with it. and why do folks need to have a problem with a guy b/c they don't share the same opinion?

What do you want to hear? That's MM's opinion, not something you like to hear. Grow up.

Yeah, I got that impression, too. It's the tone of the article that sounds a little pessimistic.

Knee-lock or whatever the case, he's been throwing over the heads of receivers since I've seen him @ training camp before the '06 season. He's been doing it so long, it's like he's scared to under-throw the receiver and very lucky none of those have been picked off a tip.

/thread hijack

I see fact based writing in this article. Maybe the style it's written in isn't very "rah rah" to the fans but oh well. It's "in" to incite witch hunts nowadays.
