He may not be the best lineman in 49ers history, but I always like Derrick Deese. He didn't look the part, but did a great jo.

My favorite since I'm from Hawaii is Sapolu. I think it really solidified it for me when he played Center with a cast on and was hiking the bacll Lefty. He also wasn't the biggest guy so to do that with a cast and block a 300lb lineman deserves alot of respect IMO. I also met him a couple of times at charity events in Hawaii and he was pretty cool.

He is pretty cool. I met him at an event once and asked if I could take a picture of him. He asked me to come around the table and take two pictures. Afterwards, we talked for a couple minutes. He was really polite and respectful. He really showed his true Polynesian colors that day. Very hospitable and kind. A gentle giant of sorts.
Harris Barton, Sapolu, Newberry, Deese were all great niners.

Jeremy Newberry was one my favorites.

Newberry came in to a bar in Modesto I worked at a few times, and I got to party with him. Dude could pound the Patron!

William 'Bubba' Paris. I think Bart Oates, a very good center, played for the 49ers for a season as well.
Current: Joe Staley
All-Time: Derrick Deese and Jeremy Newberry

Keith Fahnhorst should get a lot of votes also. He was better than Barton, but not by a lot.

Deese was terrific, not only as a player but as a leader. I could only imagine what he would have done to Vernon Davis. I think Davis would have developed more quickly if Deese had been around to set that rook in his place.

Back in the day, Bob StClair was an All Pro and the best the 49ers ever had.
