Just cuz a guy is underperforming relative to his salary doesn't mean there is a better option out there. If we pulled someone in off free agency we would most certainly overpay them as well because of the uncapped year - likely a substantial up-front guaranteed salary.
Also keep in mind that with the Walt Harris injury/age situation and Dre Bly likely not returning, I'm sure the Niners brass is looking at grabbing someone in the draft.

Clements is over paid BUT he actually produces and deserves maybe a mil or 2 less. However the only overpaid player on our squad that i think we can do without is Jones. He may or may not be a wr but is snot worth 3 to 4 mil a year especially since we have Hill who could replace his possible production for less

1. We are one of the best teams right now with cap mtg.
2. The cap has gone away this year and may not be back for awhile or may never come back for vets, so why care about it?
3. Instead of getting rids of vets like Clemmens, who still is a legit corner, we should be looking at F/A's like Bush to sign to improve our team.
