Not going to happen. Yorks hate everything(ie:west coast offense) and anyone that is connected to the Walsh and Debartolo era. You think they don't know, that Rice and Young live just a few minutes away from 49ers HQs? They could have asked for their help along time ago!

How do you know this?? Have you spokem with Jed recently?

Do you have to know Chris Cohan or have conversations with him to see he is a terrible owner? The same goes for the Yorks, just tell me what is their record since they took over. They had the chance to use Young many years ago and they didn't, what makes you think that they are going to do it now.

They are not good enough owners to get to that level of hating or loving any specific style of play. That is one of the reasons this team has had no direction since they took control of the team.

Yes there has been a lot of clueless arrogance to come in new as owners, and blow away all continuity & systems that have been proven to be successful. They grossly understimated how important the system Walsh developed was to the organization. They also grossly underestimated how difficult it is to create a new winning system. All the lack of continuity is the biggest failing of the 49ers in the last decade, and it all falls on the owners.

That's what I was thinking, why wait until now?
Like we've needed to get Alex help for a long time now and its unusual how they could think of this JUST NOW when they've been watching Alex play for a couple years......

- I mean, I would appreciate Steve Young helping Alex, that would be great, and if Jerry could stop by as well (unless I'm asking for too much), we need some help and who better than our own HOF former players......

This is why I like Young better than Montana.

Why would Montana have anything to do with the present team. Do you see Terry Bradshaw or John Elway mentoring QBs for the Steelers or Broncos?

Let's put it this way, Montana won four SB rings and was MVP of three.

I liked Steve Young alot, but he is no Joe Montana. Montana won several of those
Super Bowls with less talent. Were any of you old enough to understand what he did in the '81 SB with inferior talent?

Line up the starting lineups between the '81 and '94 SB teams and then come back and tell me how Young was so much better.

Again, Joe has earned the right to ride off into the sunset and become a family man. Young is still active in the commentary side, but neither of these guys would necessarily be good coaches.

The best QB/OC coaches rarely were the guys lighting up the scoreboard. They were the guys carrying the clipboard on the sideline. Why, maybe because they didn't have the God given athletic talent to start and have to rely on the cerebral part of the game.

In context, why do you think Elway is selling cars (or whatever he is doing) and his backup is head coach of an emerging team in Houston.

I think Alex has had enough paper knowledge and he doesn't need anymore. Just let the guy get back to bending his knees and playing football.

Look at the games when he first came into the HOU game. His legs were nicely bent and he used his legs' power to make some damn good throws. Later in the year, at times, he resorted back to his straight front leg.

I agree. Alex said in a recent interview that he is thankful for not having to learn another offense. He says his goals this offseason are to work on his mechanics (which he hasn't had much time to do throughout his career), timing with the WRs, and to have more of an imput into the 49ers offense.
many seem to automatically assume that a great player must be able to be a great coach...not always true....ted williams, baseballs greatest hitter, was terrible as a manager....

Young isn't trying to be a QB coach, but any tips from a HOF QB I'm sure will be very helpful to Smith.

managers arent really coaches
Were was Young in the last 5 years? Now that Smith has started to progress Young comes out and says this? Give me a fu*king break!
hell yeah i would love for one of the greatest quarterbacks of all time to come in and tutor non other then alex smith himself! he can still learn alot from the man even tho it is somewhat limited due to system

I would love to see Young and Jerry take Alex and Crabtree and have personal workouts before the start of OTA's. That would do wonders for our offense. LETS MAKE IT HAPPEN!!!

party time... I miss winning... hated seeing the saints celebrate a SB to be honest, remember when we used to own those chumps

Let's stop teaching Alex new things. He needs to do the same thing over and over again for 2 years in a row first.

I thinks it's a concern that this guy is temporarely frozen everytime he learns something new.
