Snyder is not a weak link. He is a GUARD that they are trying to play at TACKLE because of injuries. Our Guards Chilo and Baas have not played as bad BTW later in the season. In particular since we went to the spread they are better. I don't believe they are quite as bad as made out to be. Some of it was continuity with the same group and coaching. I don't feel we need 2 new Guards next year. RT is more important by far.

I agree. This is where this team needs the most help. Add a couple people to the secondary and we will be pretty good.

Eh. I go to Rutgers and watch Davis a lot. Very inconsistent, and I think he'd be a better fit at LT.

As for the rest of the OL, Staley is good but not great, Heitmann has been very good this season Sims has been very good as a fill in. Baas stinks, Rachal stinks, and Snyder stinks.

Whoever was calling Rachal a poor man's Larry Allen is an insult to Larry Allen to the one-millionth degree. Larry Allen was one of the best guards of all-time. Rachal will be lucky if he is a 5 year starter in this league.

and 2-3 new high quality OL and probably another good backup.
Three( Baas,Snyder,Rachal) more of Scots wonderful picks. How many players are in the starting lineup really shouldn't be starting but really should be career backups?

yes but out of those rachal has most potential so i would keep him as starter
I don't know if it is our players or our oline coach but Oline has been a problem this year. Assuming that we got a better oline coach, assuming that that is the solution to our oline problems then we could get it fixed.

On the other hand I don't think Snyder can cut it as a RT. So we either get us a new RT or we keep Sims at LT and move Staley back to RT. If we did that we still need a Tackle in the draft or FA. Pashos could be that tackle but I would rather draft a tackle is a starter in waiting rather than a backup.

We also need quality up grades in our tackles. Again the Rachal question is there and we do not know if it is Rachal or his coach. But I would like Iupati, or someone else that is quality. And Baas had not cut it, again it could be a coach issue.

So I would like Bulaga, Williams, Brown, at RT or LT. We need 1-2 quality Guards. I also think we need a Center in training and I don't think Wallace is the one, unless we are going to the faster, more mobile zone blocking scheme. If that is the case then we need a new oline coach, and 3 replacements for our current line.

Who would be a qualilty replacement for the oline coach?

I like Anthony Davis at RT. Correct me if I'm wrong, but if a OT is an inconsistent pass blocker then you probably dont want him protecting a QBs blind side at LT. Anyway I watched Davis against South Florida. He had no problems with George Selvie, although Jason Pierre-Paul gave Davis all he could handle in pass protection. Just based on one game I like Davis better than Bryan Bulaga who didnt play all that well against Michigan this year. Bottom line, the 49ers will draft an offensive tackle with one of their two first rounders. Davis will be one of the OTs to get a serious look for sure.
I only see Staley and Heitmann as real gamers...Baas and Rachal have been disappointments. Chilo's still young (he came out as a jr), so might still become effective. We need to get away from the maulers and get OL who are as adept at run blocking as they are pass blocking...guys who're mobile enough to pull, lead screens, etc. They're just too limited now...and going to a more spread offense, we need OL who're lighter on their feet. For sure, we need to acquire OG's, OT's, and if Wallace isn't going to be Heitmann's eventual replacement, a good C, or someone who can play both OG and C. Wait...we have one of those guys...Wragge...but Singletary hasn't put him in the lineup...what the???
who is going to be the next kyle kosier, harvey dahl, or justin smiley

This position is a complete mess. Staley was one of the league leaders in sacks allowed for starting LT's last year and who knows if he'd be there this year if not for the injury. Bass is a bad OG, maybe he can play C but he's not a gaurd in this league. Rachal has regressed as his career has continued...maybe he has potential but it won't be tapped with the coaches we have now. Heitman is solid but no star. Wragge is a good backup but no starter. Snyder is miscast as a tackle and should be inside but lacks the quckness to handle any kind of speed rush and the rest of the guys we have should be on the practice squad. Pashos might be serviceable but he is hurt.

I say draft the best available Oline prospect with our top pick...if it's a LT then move Staley, if it's a Gaurd ect. We need to invest in vetran talent because we've shown we can't develop talent so I hope we overpay and pick up a couple of fresh Olinemen this offseason...and not guys like Pashos, other teams throwaway players but some actual starters.

Honestly we need to replace atleast 3 guys on this Oline...and that's a is telling as to how bad this line is.
Cody Wallace, anyone? Looked like a wasted pick from day one.

The easiest way to fix the Oline is to stay in the spread. Smith is rarely sacked coming out of the spread.

Anyone know the number of sacks we've given up out of the spread offense? I know they were talking about it last game. We're averaging only like 1 sack given up per game. I remember at one point, a commentator said that we were on a stretch of 96 consecutive pass plays without giving up a sack. That's not too bad at all.

It doesn't matter who we sign/draft if go back to the early season offense. Our rushing-style attack is a nightmare for QBs.

That's not fixing the problem.
Draft Buluga- (Big, Mean Streak and Athletic) With later pick
Mike Imputa- Massive Guard with all the talent in the world (most taleted Gaurd in years) draft with second round pick
Draft another (athletic) gaurd in round 5
Keep Heitmann & Staley in starting positions
Chilo Rachal is great in the run but just sucks against the pass- give him an ultimatum, improve or lose the starting spot.
Oh, and hire Stanfords O-line coordinator. R guy is just terrible

Agree! Have we even heard if Pashos is stickking around? And I am okay with Sims backing up Staley, not the RT position though, since he gets torched at that position...
