Say what you will about Marathe's football knowledge but he's managed the cap pretty well, no? Look Clements can be released (if we need to) and we won't owe him anything. No dead cap money in his contract... even after he broke the bank when he signed.

If Chryst can't develop a QB for this team... We're doomed.

Last thing I heard was that he's staying on as the OC at Wisconsin.

So is the coaching staff complete now ?

I think some of the entry-level position (quality control coaches or something like that) might still be open and maybe there will be a new assistant coach hired here and there, but I think those should be it in regards to the position coaches.

And is it just me or does the staff currently look a little offense-heavy? Personally, I do not mind, I mean, I will be the last one complaining about the Niners getting coached up on offense

But the O-Line, which admittedly is a big group, gets three (or two-and-a-half, however you see it) position coaches, while the DBs and LBs (which are almost equal in roster numbers, especially since our Defense plays a LB-heavier 3-4 defense) both only have a single position coach right now. I guess those numbers will even out with assistant coaches, but I think right now you can see from the hires that Harbaugh has an offensive background

I agree I'm hyped that we have so much attention on the OL. We're very young upfront and may get even younger if we decide to draft a new RG to replace Rachal.

This comment seals it for me:

Harbaugh said he has retained four of the coaches from Mike Singletary's 2010 staff. They are: Mike Solari, who will coach the offensive line with new hire Tim Drevno; Tom Rathman, who will coach running backs; Jim Tomsula, who will coach defensive line; and Ray Brown. Last year, Brown coached the offensive line alongside Solari. This year Harbaugh said Brown will coach offensive tackles and tight ends. Harbaugh said offensive coordinator Greg Roman will double as the lead tight end coach. "It's a big number of guys," Harbaugh said. "When you talk tight ends and offensive line, it's a large number. ... We want to make sure everyone's getting coached."

I also agree that we will bring in some more assistant position coaches. I see us bringing in another LB coach (possibly retain Tarver who served as OLB coach last year and has been with the staff for a long time) and probably an assistant DB and ST coach. I read somewhere that the team has look at bringing Jeff Ulrich back who served as asst ST coach in Sea last year. I'd like to see him get a duel role of asst ST/LB coach.

It's interesting that Brown will coach TEs and OTs. With Solari and Dreveno dedicated to the OL already. Brown will probably be the blocking coach for the TEs w/Roman as the lead TE guy and help out Solari/Dreveno with the OTs. Makes me wonder how much Roman is really going to coordinate as our OC seems like Harbaugh is doing most of that and will have Roman as his assistant while also coaching TEs.

Hats off to Harbaugh he's put together a GREAT staff. He retained the best we already had (love that Rathman and Brown 2 former 9ers are still around) and we owed it to Tomsula to keep him around. Good vision by Harbaugh to keep Solari despite hiring his guy in Dreveno.

I really wish the team would take advantage of the fact that the league year isn't over yet for the roster.

Let's get a decision on Nate Clements and negotiate a new deal with him or release him either way get a plan in place.

Start talking with Franklin and Lawson see how reasonable it is to bring those 2 back.

Get Westbrooke in here and explain it will be a 2 back system and get him signed.

Make Willis happy and re-sign Spikes (still a top notch ILB) and re-sign Baas so we can fully concentrate on evaulating the rest of our roster, the FA market and the draft.

All good points there

I am not sure how much signing activity can take place during the remaining weeks of the current league year, I would guess the expiring CBA has some really strange rules in it in regards of a looming lockout (as we have seen all season long), maybe there are rules regarding free agents (which might restrict free agent activity), I would not be surprised.

I agree that we will probably get a few more assistant coaches on the defensive side and I am pretty sure you are right that we will get at least an assistant LB and DB coach and quite possibly an assistant ST coach as well. I could also imagine that we add even another offensive coach in an assistant wide receivers coach or so.

Personally, I would love to bring Ulbrich back as assistant LB/ST/Whatever coach, but I think a big reason he went to Seattle and did not stay with us was that it would have been kinda akward for him coaching guys he played with just a season ago. Maybe that changed, I surely hope he got fed up with Pete Carroll and comes back

The new responsibility mix on the offensive coaching side should be interesting to watch, I just wanted to add one thing: I too love that Rathman and Brown stay around (and hope other Niners will come back as well or at least pay extended visits), but you forgot one old-time Niner who was also retained: Mike Solari. If you donĀ“t remember, he actually honed his craft as a Niner coach under our legendary line coach Bob McKittrick (and won a ring with the 94 Niners) so technically, we have three former Niners on board again

Sweet I did actually forget about that! Bring on Jerry Rice as assistant WR coach so he can learn how to coach before having big responsibility. haha j/k I know it's been said 1billion times here but I can still dream!

I'm jacked.
Irony is 3 of the 4 coaches retained were brought in by Singletary - Brown, Rathman and Solari. Who would have thought that?

Coaches roster seems to have been cut by half. No former team members, read Al Harris, Wendell Davis, or family members (Vantz).
