Screw the offense, what happened to our supposedly great defense

What? Another useless thread to question the Defense?

How bout we start a thread about how the 9er Defense isn't pulling out of Afghanistan or Iraq like they are the games they're playin too???

Just stop. It's pointless to continue to question the Defense so long as they are on the field for an average of 40 minutes a game.

When that number gets closer to 30, then and ONLY then do you jump their case. Understand? Or do I have to draw nice pretty pictures for you on a white board to make it clearer?

Why isn't OUR defense at the start of the game, knocking the other teams offense out in 3 plays? Where are the 3 and outs we are supposed to be generating? Without a decent pass rush our D is extremely vulnerable to a savy OC. When Nate was in, his tacking ability and strong run play masked some of our problems , but now we are naked to other teams offenses. It's only going to get worse until we can generate a consistant PASS RUSH!!!
True that, BadAl...the niners also havn't had a power/smashmouth running game since mooch either. The niners also have been totally outcoached/outschemed as
opposing OCs adapted and went away from attacking our strenght (middle and Willis) to attacking the edges and forcing/daring the defense to sack/pressure the QB - our weakness.
Well, let's see:

1/ They needed to stop the Titans on 4th down to win .... FAIL (coulda won)
2/ They needed to stop Favre on one play to win ... FAIL (shoulda won)
3/ They needed to stop Green Bay to get the ball back ... FAIL (coulda won)
4/ They needed to stop the Colts to get the ball back .... FAIL (could won)

Have a nice day
Exactly, All the people want to blame Smith and the O and they do deserve some of the blame. But if our D came around more in crunch time Mr Smith our 49ers starting QB might have givin us a few comeback victories....

Its a team game and the blame goes on the team for not executing.

For the people who think smith sux and cant get it done, u should stop watching football, ur hopeless.....
The problem with the defense being on the field too much goes back to the beginning of the season. There isn't a game where our D hasn't spent most of the game on the field. After 8,9,10 games, the D is gonna get tired and worn out. The D is tired from a long season already! If the offense could sustain some drives and keep the D off the field more during games, our D would be better down the stretch. Its not gonna get any better guys.
You can't always have your cake and eat it too. Niners D is pretty good but we're the 2ND WORST TEAM ON CONVERTING 3RD DOWNS. Only the Raiders are worst.

Nobody says anything when our defense wins the game for us like they did against Chicago, St.Louis. Offense deserves blame.

The only time I have seen the defense play poorly was against Atlanta. Then again who didn't play bad in that game

1/ Just one more drive longer than 3 and out would have won the game. Offensive Failure.
2/ Ditto
3/ One INCH lost this game. That one INCH was crucial to setting up Team Chemistry for the ENTIRE 1st half and POSSIBLY the game.
4/ It's Peyton Manning?!?! The man was held to ZERO scores on the day. ZERO!!!

You too.

znk, that's why n00bs should not post.

But the WZers swear up and down we should cut him...

Now you see what we have without him in the secondary.

My thoughts exactly... you don't really know what you had until it's gone.
thats bs i knew from the way rodgers was moving the ball on their 1st and 2nd possession it was gonna be a long ass day. other than maybe a few stops they were garbage and a f**king disgrace. i was extremely upset they couldnt man up for 1 drive and put the gm on alex's hand since him and the offense was on fire.

I'm sorry no matter how good your Defense is they are going to be crappy if the Offense can't be out on the field longer than 3 plays. They couldn't stop GB on that last drive not because they suck but because the were gassed. Our D can easily be a top 5 D if our offense could stay on the field.
It is a combination of not enough talent and being on the field too much. We need a standout pass rusher just like the top three teams(Colts,Vikings,Saints) and we need to replace Michael Lewis because teams use formations in order to get Lewis to cover man-to-man, especially on 3rd and 5. The Packers constantly found a way to throw at Michael Lewis and we have to be honest about who's not producing and move on. Justin Smith is a good player but he doesn't sack the qb and he has a high salary so he needs to be evaluated to see if he's worth the money. The Vikings have 3 guys on the dline that may be probowl caliber and I have not seen anyone target their safeties so if you want to be in the playoffs you have to have a very good defense.
