My reasoning for including this is to close 3 doors;
1. Forget about HIll, he WILL only be the backup, and starter never again, so we shouldnt even be worried bout Him anymore.
2. Smith will finish the rest of the season out. Like Matt M said, and I agree, I dont like any of the QB's next year to come to San Fran. IMO, we'd finally have the same quarter back and OC for more than a year. Wow, will it finally happen?
3. Exclude Davis at all this season. Lets stop putting up threads about Davis comin in, him doing this, what about that. Leave Davis right where the hell he is and let him actually be trained the right way. I say he doesnt even see the field as a backup until next year.
All in all, it should be easier now, To just focus on the remaining games left. Stop all the hate, Accept s**t the way it is for the season, and if you are a true 9er fan, not just a smith, or hill, or gore, or vd fan. Then for the rest of the year we should be supporting EVERY player on the team. Because like Sing said, in his eyes, which are the only ones that matter now, he puts the best players on the field. And i think we are moving in the right direction.

Someone should compare and contrast the number of 3 and outs, and average per game for each player.
I think we all know Hill's totals would be far higher. Alex has almost passed Hill's yardage totals already in about half as many games.

Why all it will show is that we've been passing more with Smith in.
Hill in his first three games and the Houston half had 103 passing attempts.
While Smith had 122 passing attempt in his second half vs. Houston and the next three games.
Not only are we passing more with Smith, but we're passing more during each series, as to running it on first and second down.

I don't why some people are so blind to this. And Hill didn't have Crabtree or Gore (for 3 games). The gameplan is wayy different. I am not saying that Hill is "da man", but he was severely gimped by playcalling. I have yet to see AS make a throw that Hill couldn't, just the gameplan (i.e. more pass attempts) has changed quite dramatically. The only thing Smith has brought in over Hill is his scrambling ability...
I would still like to see Smith finish the season, just because we need to put this "Smith is the future" argument to rest. He has no more excuses, and there is no reason for him not succeed, or at least show moderate success. He hasn't been asked to do a whole lot yet, so we will see if GB will test him...

It's an easy answer as to why. The shift in offense would not have occurred if Raye didn't need to, but because he plays to the players' strengths, this is why you see the shift.
Smith can indeed do much more, and I hope to see growth all the way through to the end of the season.
It's a given that Hill was limited, and eventually our offense as a whole became severely limited primarily because of that. I'm certainly not trying to crown anyone here -- I'm still waiting to see more of Alex this season. We saw 6 games of Hill. We've seen 3 starts for Alex. Clarity will come on what we really have in him after a few more games.

Alex faced the Colts and Houston which were pretty decent defenses. Hill faced obvious passing downs more because he killed our running game with his lack of an arm. He compressed the field so much with his 1 and 2 yard throws that they put 8 or 9 in the box every play and it killed our running game.
You're right that his arm killed us. But it wasn't his arm it was that the Defense knew what he WASN'T capable of and that's what killed us.
Hmmmmm I just KNOW that someone said this would happen WELL before the season even started. I just can't remember who
......
As far as the numbers being close? I guess people clamoring for Smith to be benched, should re-read the article. His percentage was in the FIFTIES prior to this season. That shows that Smith has INDEED improved.

I read your post and while some things I agreed with and some I din't, this REALLY stood out to me.
Since Smith started I haven't seen ONE pass that Hill COULD have made. Not that he couldn't have attempted them but those high arcs into traffic would have been Pick Six. And how about the very 1st play of the game where Smith hooked up with Crabtree along the sideline? Was it complete? The Refs said no. But we all know that if Hill EVER made that throw Crabtree either catches it out of bounds OR it's not even on target.
So while I agree with some things you said this is the most important thing that I did not agree with. Hill would NEVER throw into traffic. Smith has put that thing on a LAW wire and right through Defenders to it's intended target.
And that's not me crowning Smith. That's me pointing out the difference between the two QBs'.

Yeah i agree with you brotha, for those that still dont understand just know. I'm ONLY using these 2qb's for a simple relation to smith and Hill. Just take Mcnabb and Vick. Mcnabb is the arm and scrambler, and Vick is less arm, more scramble. Both good Qb's but bring two total different offenses into fruition.
Hill could probably ATTEMPT, the same passes that smith has, however, the reason we didnt put him in that situation is because he couldnt make those same passes consistently day in and out. That wouldnt be playing to his strength. Do we forget the tons of announcers, nfl network, espn, PTI, around the Horn; whenever talked about us with Hill, the words always were, Hill's a game manager, and thats what he's good at, but he wont will or lead his team if they fall behind one bit. It's not a knock on him, just the reality. And thats why he's sitting. No other motives, no reprimands.
And if you guys read what i said in the first post of this subject. He will not start again, and may not even be back. The HIll experiment was good while it lasted, now can we all move on together.

This article speaks valumes to why we have issues with player developement! No player on the team should be the same as he was in training camp, but when you have a QB lining up at CB with the scout team, this is exactly what you get.
I know you have to focus on the starter but what this says is you can take the year off son, don't worry about actually playing football. In other words if Smith & Hill were injured in the same game, than we are screwed.
Let the water boy work with Davis, it would be better than having him line up at CB!
Bass probably sucks so much because he has spent the past two years lining up a WR in practice!

But i mean can you blame them not rushing Davis a long. Soooooooooo many things have to change before Davis could even play as a starter. s**t it took Hill 5 years on one team and almost 4 on another to be the starter. Right now as they have it Smith is first, then Hill, then Davis.
Also dont forget they only gave him a very extremely simplified version of the offense, and actually with much more visuals. If he came in at all this season, he'd do worse than Ryan Leaf, and Ray finkle together. lol.
Thats why i say we shouldnt even be talking about any other QB on our team than Smith, cuz for the season anyway, this is who we have.

Make of it what you will from MattM. And by the way, for all stat lovers, it speaks for itself i say. Smith aint doin all that bad as most want him to be and i hope it puts an end to all that Nate Davis mess. At least until the end of the season.
Who will be the 49ers' starting quarterback in 2010?
Of course, that's impossible to answer with seven games remaining in the season, but the quarterback on the roster who has the best chance of being the team's "quarterback of the future" is the man who is also the 49ers' quarterback of the present.
Alex Smith will get the chance to prove, once and for all, he is the answer. He has made good strides in some areas in his three starts. He was a 54.4-percent passer entering this season. In his 14 quarters of play, Smith has completed 64.8 percent of his attempts.
He has been better than Shaun Hill in three important areas, including completion percentage (Hill completed 56.1 percent). Smith has also averaged 6.6 yards per pass attempt, compared to Hill's 6.1 yards. And Smith has been sacked once every 12.2 attempts, while Hill was sacked once every 8.6 attempts.
Where Hill was better than Smith is in the turnover department. Hill threw two picks in 155 attempts, while Smith has tossed six interceptions in 122 throws. But the 49ers justify that disparity - in most circumstances - as plays that were, uh out of his hands.
It is clear in speaking with 49ers sources that Hill does not figure into the team's plan as a starter again. The organization likes him as a backup, but not as a starter.
As for Nate Davis, the No. 3, he is nowhere near ready to enter a regular-season game. The club knows nothing more about him now than it did at the end of training camp because he simply does not get any practice time. The 49ers spend their practice time during the season preparing for the upcoming opponent. The starter gets all the first-team reps, while the backup remains sharp mostly with reps for the scout team. I've seen Davis play far more snaps as a scout-team defensive back than I've seen him line up behind center since the regular season started. He is a project who needs a lot of work during a full offseason to see if he can function in something more than an abridged version of the offense.

I dont think it's close at all. Look at the completion % , yards per pass play, TD's per game. Not even close, Hill is garbage even after getting so much snaps during practice as a starter.
There both kind of Garbage with Smith having more whatever...potential...youth...maybe lol. But Hill made less mistakes and most importantly W's.
