why? he missed his first FG inside of 40 yards in like 51 attempts? do you not like Gore anymore because he fumbled?

RB-Gore one of the best in the game, need some help behind him at HB solid FB in Norris

WR-4 good young wideouts including one that could be great in Crabtree to go along with Morgan/Hill/Jones

TE-Susperstar in Davis, very good back up in Walker, both young

LT-Staley is going to be very good for years to come

C-Heitman one of the best C in the game his game is not as recognized due to crap G play.

ILB-Willis best D player in the game, Spikes solid veteran, Mckillop shows alot of potential and Wilhelm is very good backup. Best ILB group in the NFL

DL-one of if not the best DL in the NFL with Franklin, Smith playing at pro bowl levels and Soap finally living up to his potential. 2 promising young players in Balmer/RJF providing depth

CB-Spencer playing at a pro bowl level this year, Brown showing tons of potential and Clements is a very good corner no matter what you think about his contract, Bly provides good depth

S-Goldston starting to show his potential in coverage/already a great hitter, M.Lewis starting to wear down, Smith has lots of potential but lots of injuries early in his career-this is a need

OLB-some good talent but no killer passrusher, Lawson has done a very nice job and is this defenses A.Thomas (when he was good for the Ravens) Haralson needs to go back to his 3rd down rusher role-need 1 big time sack guy at OLB

K/P/LS-best LS in the NFL in B.Jennings/pest P in the NFL in Lee/one of the most consistent K in the league in Nedney very solid here

ST coverage units-solid

KR/PR-sucks big time need in offseason

and finally QB-no reason to make this another Smith/Hill thread please it's about the depth of the team fact is Smith is going to get his chance this year, if he doesn't prove he's the man our 1st pick will be a QB. Either way I think S.Hill will be our #2 for a few years and I don't mind that a bit.

So after breaking down the postions the needs are:
big time passrusher at OLB
Safety
OL
maybe QB
that will take signifigant resources to correct a KR/backup RB can be had in the mid rounds.

try doing this list 2 or 3 years ago and you would have gone crazy listing all the needs of this team.

fact is we have 3 or 4 needs we are a young team with alot of bursting talent. alot of that talent has yet to blossum and realize their full potential.

We have 2 first round picks and a good cap situation. I believe this team will finish strong based on the fact that their are not as many holes and alot more playmakers and a better leader as a head coach and in the front office with Jed running things.

Their is excitement around our team now guys let's stop screaming about what is "wrong" or imperfect and imbrace what we have and where we are going. The future is bright in San Francisco (or wherever the new stadium is)

I don't think Norris has it anymore. We rarely use him and when we do I haven't noticed anything. lol but FB is the least of our problems hahaha

We've got Brit Miller developing on the PS. I'm not concerned about FB, I think he'll be good to go when the time comes.
True, brit miller may be a good FB especially pass catching.

Our main need is RT, G even a C because Heitmann is good but not very good.

We do need one more pass rusher either a stud DE or OLB

KR, and we should be good to go.

Remember, when Smith has more than 2 seconds to throw he looks pretty good, so before people judge him this year, use logic and try to use that when considering how a great qb would do behind our OL.....I CAN ANSWER THAT....NOT VERY GOOD.
Good post! This team is full of players who have yet to reach their potential, but are on the way & thats a good thing for the 49ers.[/code]

I think your post is a pretty good assessment of what we need moving forward. I truly hope with two first round picks we can find an o-lineman with strength AND quickness, plus a pass rusher with speed. Then in the second and third rounds we can address guard and defensive backfield.
Would Rachal be better at tackle? I swear he was a tackle through college... So maybe draft another guard. I don't know though, he may get steamrolled anywhere he is...

unless Rachal drastically improves this season I think he needs to head to the bench for some development. Balmer is getting some valuable time on the bench that we cannot affod to give Rachal right now because the OL is so thin and that's a shame.

we def need to bring in a min of 3 OL, a starter at LG, RT and at least someone to compete for RG like a 2nd round pick or something. I also think we should bring back Tony Pashos next year he at least can provide some depth.

I was somewhat with you until you said this. If you actually think we have one of the best D-lines in the league, you're seriously trippin, man. We have a good player in Smith, and another budding talent in Franklin. That's it, and neither one of them is Superstar status.

I'm not trying to hate, here. I like our guys and think we are starting to get something out of those 2, but one of, if not THE best in the league is crazy.

I beg to differ man, this is one of the best DL/7 man fronts in football.
the 9ers are among the best against the run, franklin/j.smith are having probowl seasons and i would argue that smith is the best 3-4 DE in the NFL name another that's better? soap has been playing very well and mcdonald/balmer have provided good depth.
OL definitely top of the list for me. Without a quality o-line the rest of the team will fail.
1. RT
2. LG
3. RG
4. KR/PR
5. OLB
6. Safety
7. QB
