My first post...our future looks good to me

Hey Guys - First post, let me know what you think... I really think that the next few years can be pretty exciting if Alex can give us something and play at or above the level he has the past couple of weeks. I know we are 3-4, but this team is greatly improved this year. As we all knew it would, the ability of this team to have success in the near future with revolve around Alex. Many on this board realized that not only was Alex extremely raw coming from Meyer's offense and only being 20 when drafted. Some others on here were sure he was a bust despite this, which I never quite understood considering all the factors discussed to death on this board, but passion can blind us sometimes. It is way too early to get excited about one half versus a below average defense and a pretty good performance against the Colts. But if Alex can be a decent starting QB - a la a young version of Bulger or Hasselbeck - then I believe we have a nice young nucleus. I was one of those who was starting to get critical of Scot's drafts, but Vernon and Manny have really started to show why they were first rounders this year. I still disagree with picking Vernon when we had so many holes to fill, but at least he is a valuable piece of the team, even if it's at a luxury position. Obviously Willis, Gore, and Staley were very good picks. Now we just need Alex to be an average to pretty good starter and every first round pick (outside of Balmer who was also raw and needs time to develop) will have been at least somewhat successful. Crabtree obviously needs time too, but he has looked about as good as he could have in his limited time with us. Especially considering he plays one of the most difficult positions to adjust to in the NFL. It is a little early for a post like this that talks so much about the future, but I really feel like Scot's plan is starting to come together, and I am glad our ownership was patient instead of blowing everything up in the off-season. I was also critical of the rush to hire Singletary when we could have waited a few days to see who was let go and had a chance at a proven coach like Shanahan, Gruden etc. But Singletary has this team believing in itself and playing harder to try to win for their coach, something that just flat out doesn't happen in sports these days. IMO we have some rising talent, a strong leader as our coach, a GM who is starting to prove his worth, and the resources (cap room and draft picks) to build upon what appears to be a pretty good young foundation. I am excited for the rest of this year and the next couple of seasons. We may have FINALLY turned the corner. I feel like for the first time in about 5-6 years, our front office is making decisions better than I would if I were in charge, and that feels good.

If we can build a good offensive line, get a playmaker in the secondary and get an innovative and creative offensive coordinator we can go far.

Unless Singletary learns from this year and opens up the offense -- ie plays to win instead of not to loose -- we will be destined for mediocrity.

That's just my take anyways.
