Last week, I was going to post something along the lines of expressing my excitement as to where this team is going. I didn't get around to it, and then Sunday happened. So here is me trying to hold onto my enthusiasm: Ok, I am not going to try to defend Sunday's blowout. The team was thoroughly outplayed in all phases and really looked lost at times. Yes, Bly is an idiot, but that was not a true factor in the game. That said, and maybe I'm just being overly optimistic because I think this IS a good team that will make the playoffs, the score was not truly indicative of what went on. Consider, there was the flukish interception from the batted ball at the line that led to an early ATL score. Yes, these things happen, but those are basically bad breaks as opposed to real failures of the offense/defense. The biggest play in my mind, that really turned the whole game around, was at 14-10, when we had them at like 3rd and 5 on their own 10. Roddy White's 90 yarder. If that play doesn't happen, we get the ball back in great field position and, more importantly, there is no ensuing kickoff with the fumble (another play that was a bad break because we couldn't challenge) that led to yet another TD. 28-10 and everyone of of us new it was over... So, I am not defending the team and saying we should have won. I am saying that a few plays that either were flukes, bad calls or just plain unlucky, allowed this game to get way out of hand before the team was able to pull themselves together. Once we were down 28-10, I think the team was totally shellshocked. They basically just went through the motions for the rest of the game. As the announcers kept pointing out, this 9er team is not molded to come from behind with large deficits - and I think every one of our players and coaches know that. In short, bad game. Should we have lost? Absolutely. Is the score indicative of the actual game? I don't think so. I still think this is a good team that will bounce back. Hopefully it gets taken as a lesson to the whole team of how it will only take a couple silly snaps to put this team out of it with its current run oriented/defense wins philosophy. On the bright side, Roddy White is on my fantasy team and sealed my victory!
