What that drill is about is exactly what Singletary described. It's to give the guys a chance to test their skills in the best live game day simulated environment and that's it.

They can practice 11-on-11 all they want but that doesn't mean are hitting as hard or blocking as hard or rushing as hard and finishing as hard as they would in a gameday situation.

The Nutcracker allows the players to truly test what they have learned in a live environment that in-play practice just won't do. It also allows them to see their weaknesses or allows them to learn how to adjust to how a player is attacking them.

The Nutcracker is not grueling, it's the best live simulation they will get that is not a live game.

Maybe so but the injury list is really growing.

It always does, it's TC. MB or MM in their blogs stated that it's no more than usual the past few years, and that was in the blog about the Baas & Balmer injuries

I think only Baas has been hurt due to the Nutcracker drill.

Yea, Balmer got rolled up on in 11 on 11 drills.

Sometimes, minor injuries gives a team preparation at the depth.

Offensive guard David Baas and defensive lineman Kentwan Balmer sustained injuries that knocked them out of practice this morning.

Baas sustained what a club spokesman described as a foot strain during Mike Singletary's signature "nutcracker" drill when offensive and defensive players square off in a straight-ahead physical battle to see who can drive forward. He walked slowly off the practice field to receive medical attention.

Balmer's sustained a left knee sprain. He said he was all right, but that it scared him. When he went to the ground with the injury during a run drill, Balmer took his helmet off and slammed it down.

The club did not disclose the severity of the injuries. Tony Wragge replaced Baas with the first team at left guard, while Demetric Evans took over at right defensive end after Balmer went out. (Justin Smith did not practice today, as he was given a rest morning for the second day in a row.)

Also, back Michael Robinson (groin) and Moran Norris (hamstring) missed practice time. Patrick Willis (ankle), Jay Moore (left middle finger cut), Parys Haralson (right hip flexor strain) and Tarell Brown (left big toe sprain) sat out the morning..

For anyone who knows, when is Sirius NFL radio going to be at 9ers training camp?

Hope I didn't miss it already.
Hopefully they turn out to be minor injuries and everyone will be ready to go for the 1st preseason game

Scratch that I found it. FYI: Randy Cross & Gil Brandt will be at 9ers camp on Aug.10 @ 5pm PST. Can't wait to see who they interview.

Smashed it between two helmets. Required 12 stitches. If there isn't good blood flow, then he will need a Ronnie Lott.
Lot of players getting dinged up already. I dont know if Im worried just yet, but those are some significant names.

But come on Jay Moore.....a CUT ON THE EFFIN FINGER?! Unless the thing his haning by a piece of skin.....Its should take more than that to keep a NFL player out, especially all the time he's missed!!!

I think cuts are important now with all of the Staph infections going around.

Update: required 12 stiches and possible amputation if insufficient blood flow... Moore's new nickname should be "The Shocker"

edit: In all seriousness though, best of luck to him dealing with that

So they are worried he might get a staph infection bc there are other ways of contracting it. To be honest he needs to be out there and to let a minor cut affect his PT is ridiculous.

So what happens when a player gets a minor cut in the game? They sit him until it heals?

Wow, 12 stiches and possible amputation ... that's not malingering. Whether he would ever make the team or not, I sure hope he doesn't have to have anything amputated.
Its not a minor cut though. dude could need to have it amputated.

Lets hope for the best, the guy could definately use a break from the injury bug.
Man sounds like he got shot in the arm not defending a pass hope he gets better soon and stays healthy
