Not sure he is a bust yet, Tyson Jackson was the 3rd overall pick and he isnt exactly setting the world on fire. Balmer is still a young player and only entering his 3rd season.

It's just one practice he hasn't lived up to 1st round billing but I'm not gonna kill him for this til we know the whole story

Kentwan Balmer, absent from training camp without permission, said he has a meeting scheduled with coach Mike Singletary today and plans to return to the 49ers.
In an exclusive interview with The Mercury News, the third-year defensive end echoed the team’s stance that this is a personal matter. Balmer will miss his fifth consecutive practice today and said he needs more time to handle things.
Asked if he was going to play for the 49ers again, Balmer said: “That’s the plan.”
The Mercury News reached Balmer by knocking on the door of his Santa Clara home. He did not disclose the nature of his personal issues and said he would discuss them only with Singletary.
“People are making a big deal about of nothing,’’ Balmer said. “I feel like the 49ers could do a better job of saying that, but it’s not my place to say.’’

MaioccoCSN: 49ers say there is no Balmer-Singletary meeting scheduled. Looks as if team has moved on without him.

mattbarrows: Kentwan Balmer is on his way to the 49ers facility to meet with Mike Singletary. Balmer: "Me and coach Sing got a pretty good relationship, a good understanding of what's going on. Hopefully we're going to find a common ground."
