I know we switched more to a 4-3 when Sing stepped in but we have the players to switch in the middle of games like we have in the past. I just think now Singletary wants to stabilize a 4 man front for good.
I don't recall this.
When Nolan was still here he use to switch on occasional plays. I know we're a 3-4 defense but I was wondering where Evans fits into it. Can he play end on a 3-4?

Using the 1 gap scheme allows for the DL to be lighter compared to a 2 gap 3-4 scheme where you need behemoths to hold the point of attack to cover both gaps.

Bingo!!
Evans has the body size of J. Smith. If it worked for Smith at 3-4 DE, then it may work for Evans.
Wait and see.

Yeah I would think Singletary want to run a 3-4 myself. It's all predicated on the personnel you have.

yes, MM mentioned that he'll probably rotate at left end with blamer and soap would back up franklin.

This is incorrect.
Nolan ran a hybrid 3-4 / 4-3 using the 3-4 as the primary. He also used a packaged infamously known as the "Big Nickle" that was essentially a 3-3-5 throughout the 2007 and partly through the 2008 season.
Once Singletary took over, he simplified the gap assignments and let Manusky run the defense in a primary 3-4 with limited deviation.
Evans' salary dictates that he'll be in the rotation with Balmer and McDonald at end. He could also spell Smith as well.

I hope that he will turn out good as Justin Smith. We all had our doubts, and he turned out very good.

Well...not to pile on...but the idea is kind of funny. The idea that we'd completely switch our defensive philosophy because of a backup DE we just brought onboard
But if your question centers more around "what defensive formation is he fit for?"...then I'd say 4-3. Not that I find the signing to be bad...he seems like a good backup.

It doesn't matter, because Evans is a second tier player whose not going to be a difference maker in a 3-4, or a 4-3. As usual, we signed another FA who is NOT an upgrade from the players we already have.

Do you realistically think that we had a chance to sign Canty?
I do not think that we did.

6 Years $42.0 Million from the Giants. We would have needed to be well above that number . . . assuming we were on his radar.
