Vernon Davis retires

I don't recall seeing a player fall of a cliff so suddenly as Davis did, for a guy who didn't receive a serious injury. It's like once he hit 30 he just shut down. It was the 2014 season where he started 14 games but only got 26 receptions, and his yards per reception average dipped from 16.3 his previous year (which was a Pro Bowl year) to 9.4.

But he'll always be remembered for "The Catch III".

Great career for Vernon Davis. I remember him blowing up the combine & crying while getting drafted by the 49ers like it was yesterday
good for him. looks like he has plenty of other things he can do to occupy his time and will be able to enjoy himself to the fullest
dude was a BEAST at Maryland. Broke lifting records and had speed. It took Singletary scolding him like a child in front of the world to teach him about being a team player. Had a great career after that. Was a pleasure to watch.
He was a great 49er tightend with blazing speed, he put on a show for us, can't ask for much more.
He gave it his all. Would have been nice for him to receive a ring with the 49ers, but I am sure he cherishes the one he got just as much. One last jump catch into retirement.

Never recovered from this:

Seriously, it was like that hit took his soul. That entire game was one giant ass whopping. We were a really good team and got absolutely smoked by Seattle. They bullied us and we looked scared. That game took the aura away from San Fran.

Yet his career outlasted Chancellor's career.

Cam had no choice injuries because of hits like those took his health away

He always had a choice. He chose to give in to his injuries. Vernon was still getting paid as this dude sat at home.

WTF are you serious? Go look up what happened to him. Doctors had to tell him to quit because he was risking paralysis due to a serious neck injury.
Sucks we couldnt win Vernon a ring. Had a pretty good career. Cheers Vern.
