Richard Sherman has NEVER been an "elite" CB.
He's always been a very good one who is assisted by getting away with pushing the limits of pass interference and defensive holding to the brink. Its how Pete Carroll coaches his DBs. He even said as much a few years back..."they (the refs) can't call everything..." were his words.
Sherman has also shown he is not beyond showing up his coaching staff on the sideline and in the media.
On top of the fact that he's an a*****e...albeit a very intelligent one.

The only 3 elite players on that defense have been Bobby Wagner, Earl Thomas and Kam Chancellor. Michael Bennett has flirted with it...but not quite.
