Most people have never heard of Tom Martinez. However, had there never been a Tom Martinez there might never have been a Tom Brady, or at least the Tom Brady we know today. Martinez was the guy who broke down all the tiny components of what makes a good QB and taught them in a systematic way that elevated just about every QB that studied under him. He began working with Brady when Tom was just 13 and that relationship and tutoring process continued ever since.

Yesterday Tom Martinez passed away at age 66 but he leaves in his passing some of the very best instructional material on playing the QB position we have known since Bill Walsh's days with Greg Cook in Cincinnati.

In the link below, I was struck by the Martinez line that it takes 3,000 repetitions in order to turn a weakness into a strength. In a 49er selfish way, that bodes well for a team that was cut short in learning a new system last season. It gives great hope for the future. For now, click on the link and enjoy the video about the man and his training system.

I thought famous people dying was open for a little comedy. Or is that only celebs?

It really is too bad. He could have gone out with another superbowl ring.

on a related sad note, chilo rachal's offensive line whisperer still lives

RIP to Mr. Martinez.

Brady visited him numerous times during his NFL career, never forgetting his roots.

Cancer is a pha*got.

sad to hear... sounded like a very good man and was great at what he did for a living. If only Carmazzi had this guy instead of Brady.... rest in peace
