In our NFC South chat today, some of you were asking for updated salary-cap figures.

I just went out and got my hands on some. So let’s take a look at where each NFC South team stands in relation to the cap. In the preseason, only the top 51 cap figures count and these numbers reflect that.

The New Orleans Saints are $4.414 million under. To clarify an issue where there had been some uncertainty, the Saints are absorbing a $2.525 million hit this year after releasing tackle Jon Stinchcomb.

The Atlanta Falcons are $911,700 under the cap and may have to restructure some contracts or release some players if they’re going to make any more moves of substance.

The Carolina Panthers are $2.49 million under the salary cap. They also have plenty of ways to create room, if needed. They could sign center Ryan Kalil to a long-term deal and get him off the $10.1 million franchise tender. They also could restructure contracts of veterans like Chris Gamble, Jordan Gross and Steve Smith.

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers are $29.6 million under the cap. The good news is they don’t have the most cap room in the league. Kansas City ($33 million) now holds that honor. If you want to include all the guys under contract, which is how the cap is calculated for the regular season, the Bucs would have only $13.7 million available.

Let’s look at each AFC West team’s cap situation, in order of cap room:

Kansas City
Cap room: $32,984,542
What it means: The Chiefs have the most cap room in the NFL. They have done a great job. They signed several key players and locked up linebacker Tamba Hali. Kansas City can now look to lock up players such as Brandon Flowers and Brandon Carr if it wishes.

Denver
Cap room: $24,302,469
What it means: The Broncos likely won’t spend much of its surplus. But it has flexibility to add a defensive tackle if need be.

Oakland
Cap room: $5,311,249
What it means: The Raiders have enough room to add a veteran like linebacker Lofa Tatupu or cornerback Kelvin Hayden if they wish.

San Diego
Cap room: $2,864,800
What it means: The Chargers can’t do much, but they weren’t planning to do much, anyway. If they need someone, they can get him.

well the rams get a top 5 pick almost every year so you know they are paying so much for players like bradford, long, smith and so on and so on....horrible but quite comical
I assume Gore will eat up a chunk of our cap space when they get that deal taken care of...

How does Gore's contract change this? Or not at all?
Not sure yet. Once I know if they used any 2011 cap room, then we will all know.

btw, that 6M for Dallas does NOT include the 5.5M saved by cutting Gurode.
Also, doubt this includes Vicks new deal.

2.1M before, probably saved at least 8M for 2011.
Ok, I guess my draft**tchers thread is gone. So I just wanted to give a heads up, I have revamped the site.

Cap pages for each team, And now instead of just a .com, we have .net, .info and .org

And here is my 2011 NFL preview

But saving cap money is also saving money, right? If they aren't paying players as much as they can, then that is leaving more money in #1 - Owner's pockets.

AB, glad to see you're still around.

I'm surprised that the Colts and Rams have very little money left and both teams are winless. Sounds like bad cap management to me.
Some new extensions around the nfl.

GB Jordy Nelson, 3yr 13.5M
JAX Mike Thomas 3yr 18M
JAX Montrell Owens 4yr 11M

I believe, but dont quote me, Thomas and Nelson would of been UFAs after 2011.
