When has it worked? I believe Aiyuk is only trade up that worked out for us with this regime. Though i do feel confident in Ji'Ayir

The OP said he hated trading future picks, there wasn't any mention of trading up specifically. The poster you're referring to was speaking about trading future picks for a guy like CMC where it obviously worked.......
Also trading for Willis and Omenihu were good moves.
it is a sucky business strategy for the team that is giving away the future pick as future picks get discounted 1 round... it's like the time value of money, or, if you are familiar with discounted cash flow analysis...

for example, you want a 3rd round pick to make the trade today, but your trade partner does not have it this year but they offer you a 2nd rounder next year instead as equivalent value...

There's little downside to trading away first rounders. The bust rate is extremely high and the money saved can be used on FA's.

Case in point, the money we saved from not having 3 consecutive first rounders is basically the same as our new star DT's yearly salary.
Big mad we traded a 3 and a 5 for Trent Williams
So you enjoy the dradt, and found this one to be boring? Well the Texans had a pretty exciting draft, right? I bet their fans had an awesome draft weekend. I bet they will be less thrilled when their team struggles to win 4 or 5 games this year...

Call me crazy, I guess - but I'd rather have ONE boring weekend, instead of 17!

Not a part of this regime, but Joe Staley was a success story.

This was the first draft for Shanahan and Lynch. Thank goodness they have improved somewhat over years.
