How many "Blue Chip" players are there in 2019 NFL Draft? | Page 2

Watching NFLN last night, Brian Billick said that Ozzie Newsome said that you never trade off of a blue chip player. He didn't define what blue chip meant. Does this mean a cant miss pro bowl type player, or all pro? This question is for those knowledgeable members on this forum, what is a blue chip player and how many are there in this draft? Oh, and if you could list them too, that would be awesome! Thanks in advanced.

I agree, but there is legit "blue chip lite" talent at guard and TE too.

I think Cody Ford is better at guard then Bosa is at DE.

Noah Fant at TE scored like 18 times in the last 2 seasons. He has prototype NFL size and Speed at TE.

I think both of those players offer blue chip like safety as draft choices.

Problem being, teams shouldn't dump top ten picks into guards and TEs.

I would love to see the 49ers come out of day one with Bosa and Ford.

This was my argument last year with Quentin Nelson, who I would've loved for our team in 2018. I just can't behind drafting certain positions that high, unless other spots are filled. Like if New England somehow had a top-10 pick, sure you can go for a TE or guard (provided that they have already secured a backup for Tom Brady).

New England will never get a top 10 pick because Brady will never retire. I've given up hope on that one. I'm 36 and Brady will still be playing long after I'm collecting Social Security.

I think Hockenson and Kittle will both become All-Pro caliber players year in and year out.

I think Kittle will for sure, Hockenson isn't quite as athletically gifted as Kittle who seemed to immediately reach his potential in the NFL. If Hockenson had more years of elite production I'd say yes but it's almost unheard of for a TE to be a top 5 lock and don't think Hockenson is (which by definition blue chip players should be the very top of the draft and not passed on save for maybe a qb). I do strongly feel Hockenson will be a perennial Pro Bowl player.

So this years draft is really low in blue chip players. I think Brian Billick was saying there are usually 10-15 blue chip players in each draft.

I only have one blue chip OT in Dillard. So, a down year for OTs.
One blue chip QB in Murray.
No blue chip RBs.
One blue chip TE in Hockenson.
Five blue chip DT in Williams, Oliver, Wilkins, Simmons and Lawrence
Three blue chip edge guys: Bosa, Allen, Burns
Three blue chips WRs: AJ Brown, Butler, Isabella, M. Brown
Three blue chip S: Abram, Savage, Adderley

This. I think you can make an argument for a few others but overall these are the three best talents in the draft. You could throw in Allen, Hockenson, Lindstrom, Jonah Williams as blue chip types too.

i'd say 3 tops. that's a hefty label too. Way too much hype on a lot of these DE's. I think a lot of them will not pan out to be the all star studs I have been hearing about all damn off season.

You can be a blue chip guard, off-ball linebacker, TE, or FB and not go top 5. Allen is only ranked as a top 5 prospect because he's an edge. He's probably not as good of an edge prospect as Ed Oliver is a DT (in some schemes), but he's more versatile and plays a more valuable position.

G/T Ford as blue chip? or is it you just never see guards as blue chip?
