I'll give you a nice find. He seems to be the best of the end of the draft TEs.

However, there is no way you honestly think he's the most complete TE in this draft. His blocking is adequate at best. Just the LSU his guy made the tackle numerous times.

He does seem like a legit receiving threat.

I don't think Kittle would be pissed off by drafting a TE picked at a spot before him. ESPECIALLY if he continues to seem his 85% of the snap count like he should.
Nice late round TE Kyle could use in this offense

I think his blocking is very good, he stoned Josh Allen quite a few times when they played, and made him his b***h in the run game.

You've got to remember that isn't just the fact a new TE would be drafted above Kittle, they would earn more than him for at least a year to be his backup. Not enough to make you rule it out, but definitely something to consider.
Nauta has some vertical speed, but I don't think he gets in and out of breaks well enough for Kyle.

I think in order to draft a TE this year they would have to be far and away the best player on the board, with no trade option available.

Not only have we got Kittle, but Celek was banged up, and Dwelley came on, think like our RB group we're happy to roll unless someone wows us.

Celek seems to be banged up alot. Plus if i recall correctly he had some trouble hanging onto the football the past couple years.

Dwelley all of 2 catches for 14 yards came on?

I posted the snap count stats in another thread. Our backup TE needs upgraded. Long story short. Our backup TE and FB (each on average). See the field as much as our slot WRs.

Which to me means an upgrade over Celek is a must.

Thankfully this draft class appears to be loaded with upgrades.
You also have to factor what their role is. If they're just in to block or be a decoy they're not a priority addition.

That's the thing. We dont have anyone on our roster that can be anything other.

Giving kyle another weapon at TE only gives him more creativity.

If they're going to be on the field already imagine having EVERYONE on the field as a weapon not just a blocker or decoy

You don't always need that creativity. You got Kittle, McKinnon do we need them pass blocking so some other guy can go out on a route? That's 1 for Shanny to answer but has he had production from multiple te's?

But I wouldn't be against it. Having a plan b for Kittle is enough reason to draft a good 2nd te. Especially since you're talking about a 5th to 7th rounder.

Seriously where do you find these guys? I thought I watched a lot of football and I've never heard of some of the players I see on this forum. Do you scan rosters and then go find film? How do these guys get on your radar?

That was a good question. Interestingly, it appears he used his talent as he has it.

2010 in wash he had Chris Cooley, Fred Davis and Sellers at FB. 126 targets for Cooley 70 for the other 2 combined.

2011 cooley only played 5 games. Fred Davis only 12. He blew up the rest looked like celek/dwelley

2012 fred davis only played 7 games cooley virtually 2 games nothing really from any TEs other than Davis'7 games.

2013 jordan reed 9 games fred davis only 3. Basically only production was Reed. Though alot of targets to logan Paulsen for minimal results.

2014 jordan Cameron only played 10 games with decent usage. Barnidge and Dray combined for same usage as Cameron.

2015 tamme virtually TE used

2016 tamme only 8 games Hooper essentially just replaced him.

So to me it looks like Shanny uses what/who he has. Looks like he only really had 1 year to even work with it due to injuries in Wash. So if he had a 2nd TE I'd be interested to see how it looks.

Lol..I was a big fan of Isaac when he was a freshman when Georgia's offense was balanced. He always high point the ball and catch with his hands with very good playing speed for a TE. His production and effectiveness dipped dramatically when Georgia became a run heavy offense the past two years. Which to me is kind of a good thing for some that's looking for late round gems. (1) It took him off of people's radar because of less production. (2) The run heavy offense helped him a ton in his blocking technique. That's why IMO, I feel like he's a complete TE for the later rounds.

Yessir...The Running game sets up playaction which is KS's bread and butter. When the LBs takes their check steps and hesitates over playaction, it opens up the middle of the field. If we can have 2 TEs that can attack the middle of the field consistently and win in KS's system on base downs and keep the opponents base defense on the field, we would be deadly. It will forces the defense to adjust to where the safeties cheat down a little and that puts the pressure on the outside CBs to not get beat deep. Which is the reason why KS prefers crisp route runners and speed over size. If CBs cheats and bail out too fast afraid of our WRs speed, the intermediate and short will be open where YAC comes to play, another quality KS seeks in his skill players. Our run game will benefit as well if we can attack defenses with our "12" personnel or the "22" personnel in the air without the extra Slot Receiver.

All of those injuries makes a pretty good case.
