2017 NFL Draft 1st round.

I would do everything in my power to land Patrick Mahomes. You can't let a player with that much talent slide right past you in draft. We could have had him for a 1st round pick. He obviously is easily worth that. He's worth far more than that. Solomon Thomas on the other hand is a pass rusher who can't pass rush and has no impact on the game.

You have absolutely got to land Patrick Mahomes. You can't pass on talent like that.

~ Pin point accuracy of Drew Brees.

~ Escape ability and mobility and ability to create on the run of Russell Wilson. Keep in mind he is significantly bigger, stronger, taller of stature and bigger frame than Wilson. So he is like a better version of that.

When have you seen a talent combination like this in the NFL?

He is currently on pace for 56 TD's and 0 Int's for the season and around 5,000 yards. You can't pass on that!....... You can win Super Bowls with Mahomes.

Was this what you were advocating for back then?

Mahomes is very talented, but he's also walked into an ideal situation being able to sit for a year and then be given a ton of weapons to work with.

He was never going to come in week 1 for us back then and do the same thing with the talent (or lack of) that we had on the roster.

He has a lot of talent around him no doubt. But he is also extremely impressive. Obviously that is the case. He has an awesome upside. He is already playing great so far.

Yeah he hasn't done much so far. He looks like a terrible miss at #3 overall. You can't miss that bad on top 3. That sets your franchise back a long way. You got to hit on those ones.

Hindsight is 20/20, and I say that as someone who had Mahomes far and away QB1, and wanted him for our team.

No one knew this kid would turn out to be what he's become. Not even KC seen this coming.

I mean they traded up to get him even with Smith signed for a couple more years. Nobody does that if they don't see something special

Yeah, they definitely had him targeted. He's a special kid - KC is sitting pretty with this kid for years to come.

You'd be dumb not to take Mahomes now but at the time of the draft he wasn't considered a top 5 pick. KC shocked everyone when they moved up to 10 (?) to get him. Most people had Mahomes going at the end of the 1st round.

Thomas was the clear cut favorite at #3. J Adams and M Hooker both were rated high but I don't think a safety has ever been taken that high in the draft before.

Somewhat, it was know a few times were very high on him, especially Reid.

Let's go back and re-draft every draft of ours because it will change what actually happened.

Alex Smith had 11 TDs 0 INT with 1361 yards with the Chiefs going 5-0 to start last season. And his team wasn't as talented on offense as the one Mahomes has.

Chiefs have virtually no injuries on offense and have faced only 1 defense which was in the top 20. That one being Denver who is ranked #17. That also happened to be his worst game.

Let's see how he does against the Jags. Let's see how he does when his team starts getting beat up.

The whole idea that he plays the same if he comes here is silly. He got to sit a whole year and learn behind Alex Smith and from Andy Reid and the team has a stacked offensive roster around him. You think he comes anywhere close to the same results here?

Many good QBs have been ruined because they go to bad teams and can't handle the bad results. Mahomes is playing with a ton of confidence right now but he doesn't have that if he comes here.
