2018 NFL Draft Resetting the Board for Day Three

Four draft selections by the Niners in the books, and while the overall lot of players selected is highly depressing to me, we nevertheless march on with enthusiasm that tomorrow will be the day to strike gold.

Here is what they have so far by selection number:
9- McGlinchey- Will be the starter at RT, taking over for Trent Brown
44- Pettis- A number four WR and return specialist
70- Warner- Candidate to start at Mike or Will
95- Moore- Dime cornerback

So, lots of players to still fill needs on the roster. I believe we could still use a LT prospect, and an interior OL and defensive NT developmental player, a backup SS, a WR, and an RB.

Here is my Best Board entering Day Three. It may have duplicated players the Niners don't need:
25 Ogbonnia Okoronkwo Oklahoma OLB
37 Maurice Hurst Michigan DT
41 Josey Jewell Iowa ILB
51 Micah Kiser Virginia ILB
55 Kyle Lauletta Richmond QB
56 John Kelly Tennessee RB
60 DeShon Elliott Texas S
63 DaeSean Hamilton Penn St WR
66 Tyrell Crosby OT
67 Duke Ejiofor Wake Forest DE
68 Josh Sweat Florida St DE
71 Tyler Conklin Central Michigan TE
73 Jaylen Samuels NC State FB
74 Ian Thomas Indiana TE
77 Nyheim Hines NC State RB
81 RJ McIntosh Miami DT
83 Daurice Fountain Northern Iowa WR
84 Nick Nelson Wisconsin CB
88 Chris Herndon Miami TE
90 Jack Cichy Wisconsin LB
93 Genard Avery Memphis LB
94 Trey Quinn SMU WR
97 Wyatt Teller Virginia Tech G
99 Colby Gossett Appalachian St G

My personal draft so far when the Niners were on the clock:
9- Vander Esch- Starting Mike backer and future team captain
44- C. Williams- Starting RG
70- Okoronkwo- Sam/edge rusher
95- H. Phillips- Nose tackle

Very unconventional draft. But nonetheless I'll "trust the process".

Always enjoy you're analysis

Same here, am disappointed they didn't get Landry or any edge rushers yet, but hopefully tomorrow - they bolster that position. I don't think Obo will be a 49er, but I still hope.
Is Hurst worth the gamble?

Based on what we've done this draft we're not looking at gambles so probably not.
I don't think any of these players we drafted on day two will be in the league in four years.

Stunningly underwhelming.

Jewell - I think he'd add good competition, but I wonder if the team will prioritize athleticism (he did have a good cone time).

Ejiofor - I think he can be a good rotational player.

Sweat - Not sure if he dropped because of the medicals or if it's because he has raw technique. At worst, I think he shows better hands than a guy like Harold.

Thomas - I think if they pick offense on day 3, it'll be TE. He may be kind of raw, so not sure if they'll go for him. But IMO he does look like a fluid athlete (bball background) and flashes the ability to get separation in the red zone. Maybe that'll attract the team. Embree could further mold him.

I like Shaquem Griffin. But, projecting him might be tricky, so maybe the team goes in another direction.

I would probably dislike that draft just as much as you are underwhelmed by the 49ers actual selections. Beauty is the eye of the beholder I guess.

Thanks for all of your great work, MD... I knew after the McG pick that you would be disappointed and perhaps the team panicked a bit after they saw T Brown so out of shape recently. That being stated, I think what the team was looking for was high character (i.e. reliable), versatile players who love the game. Those intangibles cannot always be measured....even in the film room. While I greatly respect your opinions, analysis, scouting, and tremendous work ethic, I think you may have missed the thread that runs through the players the Niners chose.

Both Lynch and Shanahan have been around the game a long time and know that while talent is certainly one of the most important qualities a player can have (see R Foster), it is not necessarily the quality which determines how valuable a player can be to a team. I'm certain the reason the team took Pettis, for example, over guys like Miller, is his versatility. This quality, by the way, is one that New England values very highly. They like guys that can play multiple positions so that if there is an injury, they have more flexibility.

All of that stated, man, keep up the great, great work... You are such a great resource here and we are lucky to have you.

Cheers!
Still some interesting talent on that list,O.O.,Josey Jewell are a couple I like-and a few off the list Cedrick Wilson,Quentin Meeks,Holton Hill ,Hercules M.for instance .I must admit the FO has been throwing some curve balls so far so who knows how it plays out -hoping for the best.
Guy's on my wish list for day 3;

WR Ateman
WR Tate

RB Walton
RB Wilkins

OG Jones
OG Teller

TE Fumagalli

EDGE OO
EDGE Armstrong
EDGE/SAM Holland
SAM Haynes

DE Ostman

LB Kiser
LB DeLuca

CB Meeks
CB Nelson
Okoronkwo, Ejiofor and Meeks. Please.
Use 6th and 7th on OLine, maybe a RB or TE.
