Clemson DT Christian Wilkins

Yea. I remember seeing his teammate try to defend it. "You ain't a good football player if you don't do that!!!" Or something. f**kin weird. I don't usually see players on the field dig their hands in another mans nuts but who knows.

What does this have to do with whether it's a god idea to draft him or not?

I think we're done at 1, 3, 5. Sam/ Leo is still likely a 1-2 round need next year though.

The team is never "done" with the DL. You can't have too many good d-linemen. And you don't completely disregard a rare talent like Christian Wilkins because you have Earl freeking Mitchell.

The poster didn't say done with D-line. Just done with interior guys. If ST lives up to his draft ststus, Bucknee continues to develop, and A turns the corner, they aren't using a day 1 or day 2 pick on an interior player. Now if we are talking RDE, absolutely draft one early. But I think we are "done" with inside guys. Don't forget, we also have Quinton Dial, etc. I think we have the makings of a formidable group for the next 2-3 years. We are only miswing one key (and arguably the most important ) element, outside pass rusher.
With still a ton of needs on this team, I believe we still take the BPA. Having said that, thinking outside the box may/will come into play depending on other players available and what is needed /how they fit

Don't want a guy on the team that thinks it's a good idea to grab another players junk during a game.

Why not? AA is not going to play NT. Buck will play the 3, and ST will likely play the 4 (if not the LEO). Mitchell is the starting NT at this point, and he poses zero reasons not to draft a potentially great one.

Do you gave any clue how common that is in the game of football? Linemen especially do all kinds of nasty s**t to players when they're on the ground / in a pile. That's been the case my entire life. He's a dirty player who didn't think that move would be seen, but so were tons of other pro-bowl-caliber linemen in the past.

I mean... people are ok with Reuben Foster, but something like this is a deal breaker?

If we always ran the base 4-3, you'd have a point, but one of the reasons we drafted Thomas is that he has the flexibility to move inside on passing downs. Assuming Thomas and Buckner both play inside on passing downs, where is Wilkins going to play?

You don't draft a player in the top 10 to play 2 downs (or to force one of our best players to sit out on 3rd downs if Wilkins beats them out). We have way too many holes on our roster to pick an interior defensive lineman that high.

You don't? Why not? A 2-down NT whose main job is to stop the run but can also provide an inside pass rush is an absolute nightmare to opposing offenses. Plus, he wouldn't come off the field on 3rd down in short-yardage situations or on the goal line. He'd get plenty of snaps to justify a top pick.

And I'm not saying draft the guy no matter what; you gotta pick the best available player (especially at QB). But if he's the best guy on the board, take him.

I guess you wouldn't have wanted Charles Haley then, who had a habit of putting his junk on the backs of players' heads in the meeting room.

I'm not defending these actions and think they are stupid, but it's not that big of a deal.
seems to be hyper competitive lol

Haley was gross. There were stories he'd beat off in the locker room right in front of people.

Some OL in the 90s would pee themselves just to f**k with the opposing team (make the defense squeamish about touching them).

Linemen gouge eyes, punch junk, kick, "accidentally" step on people & all kinds of other dirty s**t. It's not a new concept.

That was a different time. But I was going to edit my post and clarify. If he was a Suh type of beast, then the on the field bs would be worth it.

It depends on how much better the player is. If there is a clear difference, maybe. If it's me, it would have to be a Suh like player in terms of dominance that is going to play the 1.

He is a Suh type of beast tho. Not saying he's the exact style of player, but in terms of impact he is dominant whether playing inside or out. Now unlike Suh I will admit he has been surrounded by other beastly front four talent, so it's a team effort at Clemson.

Like most nt's Earl Mitchell will only see the field 30-40% of plays. That's why you can develop a DJ Jones. It's a passing league and we got 2 beastly interior rushers. To take a 4th one would be stupid I don't care if he is Suh. If we spend a 1st on the line it has to be a Von Miller.
