My Quarterback Plan for the 2017 Season

These are the Plans right now.

Trade our 2nd round (it's like 1st anyhow) and two (4th) for the Vikings Sam Bradford and draft David Webb in the 3rd

Sign Jay Cutler and trade for his buddy (WR) Marshall and move up to draft Watson in the late 1st

Hoyer isn't a bad qb. Over the last 2 years (17 games) he's put up 4,000 yards 25 TD's, 7 picks. He even had Clv at 6-3 before the wheels off the year before.

Peyton Manning isn't walking thru the door.

If we are starting next season with Ponder or Hoyer as the QB then the team will be 1-15 again. We have more cap room than every team in the NFL (aside from the Browns). Having either of these two scrubs start for our 49ers means the owners dont want to spend the money to actually have a competitive team next year, or is just incompetent.

We essentially have to trade/sign a starting caliber QB like Cousins, or start a QB we choose with the 2nd overall pick.

You just saw the Rams start Keenum this season to "prepare Goff". Well he lost most games and nothing changed with Goff in there, so just start the rookie from the beginning.

We have enough ammo (draft picks and cap space) for many, many options. Ponder / Hoyer week 1 starter is not one of them.

I don't think so, I think the entire team was set back by the front office hence the trade request.

If KS can remotivate Kap, and fix his mechanics who knows? How can we blame Kap when everything around him digressed?

I may be wrong though as Kap may opt out.

I agree on Hoyer to a degree...he's definitely got experience in Shanahan's offense. I think signing him would necessitate beefing up our RB corps, which is something KS would likely do anyway. There are a couple of FA RB's I think would be good "adds"...namely Fozzy Whittaker and Lance Dunbar. The former's a banger, which would take some punishment away from Hyde. The latter's an excellent receiver out of the backfield...never really got to see enough of him in Dallas, who're so RB-rich.

Also, Kap was drafted 3 years after Matt Ryan.

So if Shanahan can fix Matt Ryan he can probably do the same with a younger Collin Kaepernick. I know they have different strengths but Kap was great before the front office messed things up.

Hoyer knows Shanahan's offense, which is a plus. Not a huge Hoyer fan, but whatever vet they bring in should have a WCO background. Ponder...I liked what I saw in preseason, and wish Kelly would've given him a start or two late in the season. Had he done so, it would've given us a better idea if he's worth sticking around. I really like Mahomes...some would poo-poo the idea of drafting him because he played in a spread offense at Texas Tech. I'd counter that by pointing out this kid has the arm, mobility & accuracy to play well in a WCO. It's all about the coaching, whether it turns out to be Greg Knapp or someone like him to bring Mahomes along. Watson was definitely impressive vs Alabama, two years running. But, I'm not sure Gutekunst/Shanahan want to spend a high pick on any of the QB's in this class. I could be totally wrong on that, but with so many needs we all pretty much agree are there, getting a Mike Williams or Garnett (if we stand pat) would be really hard to pass up. I still think best case scenario is to trade down and get 3 more high picks this year.

I think Hundley has the skill set and leadership qualities to be a very good QB, He's also in a WCO system
Im sure "Gute" knows weather that's true or not, He could be the guy we bring in via trade, shouldn't be too costly

Hoyer knows Shany and the system, at worst he helps the transition,

If Kap is better than the other quarterbacks on the market bring him back.

I'm not saying Hoyer is even an average NFL QB but he's several levels above Ponder...

Cowboys can't trade Romo. He will be cut.

Hoyer and Cutler are two decent short term options ( 1 more expensive than the other ). Both have been in the system before. Now if we are looking to draft a QB after round 1, does Brad Kaaya become an option? I pretty much ignored him through most of the college year because he was the exact opposite of what Chip Kelly wants in a QB. Mahomes is my favorite after round 1, but I might need to start looking back at Kaaya along with Webb.
