Malik Hooker S Ohio State

Single high safety anyone? This guy fits so well. I'd be OK with a trade back for him for sure.

Things are looking good for us as there are a lot of players that I'd be OK with at 2 or in a trade down. Thomas, Garrett (obvious), Trubisky, Corey Davis, Hooker, Barnett...

I think he's a solid pick for us at #2.

I'm not crazy about any of the QBs, and think we should fill our QB need with players in the league who are backups (Garoppolo, Calahan, Hundley, Boykin) and a vet to be a stopgap. A franchise QB is at the top of my list, but you can't force it, and this year, no one stands out. OL is the other massive need but certainly no one worthy of the top 10 pick there. So that leaves TE (no top 10 worthy), RB (1 or 2 will go top 10, but I'm not sure either of them is AP or Elliott caliber) and WR. Corey Davis certainly intrigues me.

on the defensive side I like Garrett, Allen (another 3-4 DE in the 1st though??), Foster and Hooker. I don't think Garrett gets to us and we just can't draft another DT/34 DE in the first. That leaves Hooker and Foster.

So my top 3 choices at our pick are: Hooker, Foster and Davis

One thing I learned from Baalke is to not be greedy. He was a master of turning the 2nd overall pick into 8 other picks, and instead of getting one true stud, would get 8 crappy players. I think we need good players, even if we do "over draft" them. Whatever that means

I wouldn't mind Hooker. His range is ridiculous. A game changer on what you are able to do as a D-Coordinator.
I really like the top 2 safeties this year. If we had a bad need at safety, the only tough choice to be whether to draft Hooker or Adams. But I think we have enough solid safeties in this roster. Though I do see them getting rid of Reid if they don't think they have a spot for him, plus his concussion history is scary.

Well the problem is Reid needs to be a SS, and Tartt has shown little so far. Bethae will most likely be released so that leaves us with 2 safeties that are better in the box and a need for a center fielder type. Hooker fits the bill there.

I look at the Seahawks and how much their defense missed ET, and think Hooker can have a similar impact here. I'm not saying he should be the pick, just that I would get it and wouldn't mind it

Jimmie Ward can be that guy. He was a ball hawk in college then the dumbarse wanted him to play nickle for some stupid reason. smh then that same dumbarse with no playing experience tried to coach the DBS lol.

Yep, team should definitely consider using Reid as in-the-box safety while subbing Tartt in for Reid (due to the inevitable injury). Hooker plays center field similar to ET.

I think he stays at corner unfortunately. I hope that when Shanahan and Saleh watch tape on him they see the film of him starting at safety and at least try it out

i think the hire actually means he'll move to FS. Makes too much sense. The kid has very good coverage ability but plays much better facing the play. It makes too much sense to not play him there especially if we're looking to mimic what Seattle has done. Not sure if Brock sticks around but Robinson gives us a quality corner on the outside. Redmond I'm excited to see what he can do. I think we draft or bring in another guy to play on the other side of Robinson with Redmond taking the slot.

In fact i think our secondary is the strength of the defense...just need a pass rush to help get their game to the next level.

Would be an absolutely perfect fit for our new defense.

Yup!
He's coming off hernia and labrum surgeries...because of that he may not be the 1st S drafted. Healthy, yeah, he's as good as it gets coming out of college. But, I'd say he'd be too risky for us to take in the 1st rd...we need fully healthy players who'll be ready to go at the first rookie mini-camp. I actually like the idea of beefing up the S position because IMHO, it's in far worse shape than CB.

holy shiz yes please!!!!
Why not draft this guy? I like the idea of having single high safety with Reid in the box and keep Ward in the slot.

Because Ward already has what it takes to be a great single high safety. Watch his college film
